....

President Bush made an appearance at the disaster scene, and from his helicopter Marine One, Bush could see debris from trailer park homes strewn across green fields and roofs that had been torn off hangars at Charlotte County Airport. He consoled storm victims in Punta Gorda.

"All the clothes that I've got now is just what I'm wearing," resident George Nickols told Bush during the president's 21/2-hour visit.

The president promised rapid assistance for Florida, where officials estimated damages of up to $11 billion to insured homes alone.

When asked why he made such a quick trip to Florida in this election year, Bush said: "If I didn't come, they would've said we should have been here more rapidly."

3. Did that stupid fuck really say that?
When asked why he made such a quick trip to Florida in this election year, Bush said: "If I didn't come, they would've said we should have been here more rapidly."

If I didn't come, they would've said we should have been here more rapidly? Does this even make sense? Can this douchebag put together ONE coherent thought?

Also this black humor....

Bush looks down at flattened houses and thinks "What's the big deal? These people haven't lost anything. There wasn't a house in this neighborhood that was worth more than $350,000".

8. It's easy to make promises
It another thing to keep them.

Now that W has had his photo op, you can be sure he won't even remember where Charlotte County is.

find out the law FL passed to protect the insurances companies means that the cost of a new roof will be less than their deductible, and they'll have to pay for it out of their own pockets?

You better enjoy Bush because the symbolism of his visit is ALL your going to get when you'd rather have your roof and electricity, which you won't get thanks to Republicans protecting big business while strangling government's ability to look after its citizens.

10. Why do the insurance companies get to tap into state funds to bail
themselves out? According to a St Pete times article, they get to dip into the States Catasrophe fund. The fund kicks in to begin reimbursing, REIMBURSING INSURERS, after they have paid out 4.5 billion in claims. Here's the kicker, the fund is supported by payments from insurance company reserves that in turn have been bolstered by huge rate increases in Florida. In other words, the state pays the fucking insurers to increase premiums so we the citizens can endure higher premiums to insure the profit line stays up. After Andrew, Allstate still had 2 Billion dollars in profit for the year, not assets, PROFIT.
