The FBI has been questioning political demonstrators across the country, and in rare cases even subpoenaing them, over concern about potentially violent and disruptive protests at the RNC.The constitutional phrase "chilling effect" comes to mind. Legitimate security concerns are one thing. But our law enforcement officials are not supposed to have a chilling effect on legitimate free speech.
The FBI acknowledged Monday -- after a report in the New York Times --that agents have interviewed potential demonstrators across the nation.
