Hey! Anybody get a 'Zogby' poll in their e-mail over the weekend?
Edited on Tue Aug-17-04 05:08 PM by Richardo
Was it legit? In addition to the political questions (which I was very interested in answering) there were weird, almost joke questions: Prefer Coke or Pepsi? What's your favorite ice cream flavor? Which would you buy: Ben&Jerry's or Haagen Dazs?

I skipped ('Refused to answer') anything that looked like a marketing question - must have been 20 out of about 40-50 total questions.

Was this a real Zogby poll? I felt a little stupid after spending 20 minutes filling it out, but I was on a dial-up connection and had invested too much time to just bail at that point.

Here's the intro to the e-mail I received:

http://interactive.zogby.com/s/i.cfm?ID=402xxx&pass=richardo

We invite you to participate in an online survey for Zogby
International. Your opinions are very important to us.

This poll will take you longer that any other previous poll.
We are asking you new and exciting questions!
Your responses will be kept completely confidential and anonymous.

We truly value your opinion and we look forward to hearing from you.

Please continue to respond with the same high degree of accuracy
and precision that you have in the past.

Etc etc.

12. It was quite strange.
I still wonder how helpful it is for them to know.

6. Smile...You're Being Profiled
I took the same poll...and laughed when I saw it, but then take a closer look at what they're trying to find out.

These aren't questions out of nowhere but "control questions" that help give credibility to the important ones (who do you support, approval rating and so on). Zogby takes this info and develops a profile that helps give them a better picture of whose taking their polls and things about their respondents rather than just income, age, gender and location.

Also, these questions are "hot topic" ones in the ad industry...the ones they use to buy and sell commercials, and to see who they can target and who isn't...

Believe it or not the answers to these silly questions is what makes Zogby one of the most reliable polls around as they know not only what their polls are really saying, but the people who are taking them.

7. As long as they get my left side...
:)

That makes some sense: to have some "Control" and validation questions. But I gotta say some of them had a real 'singles bar awkward first date' feel to them.

8. I filled out one but I'm not sure it's legit
I seem to be getting more spam than ever since filling out that "Zogby" poll. Does anyone know for sure if it is legit. I smell a scam.

10. yes, i did
and i too thought some of the questions were bizarre, but i answered most of them. some of them should have had a "both or neither" option, and on those i just chose "refused". by the way, i am a libra... wonder how that figured in?

11. I read about the poll on DU
Then went to Zogby to take it.

There are a lot of marketing questions in there. Zogby is hired by third parties to do polling. There are also a lot of pop-culture questions in there. Helps form a picture of the electorate. We'll find out who the fancy-pants elitists are!

I AM curious to find out if there is any statistical correspondance between astrological sign and party affiliation, just for cocktail party conversation. A lot of the marketing stuff I just answered neither because I don't use either product.

15. I did, too. The "Are you a fan of Nascar?" one was classic.
"Do you shop at Walmart?" was another.
