GRRR!!! Obnoxious freeper refrigerator repairman barely escapes my wrath!
Everyone should be very proud of me for not MURDERING the jerk who just fixed my refrigerator.

I had just gotten home from work and had C-SPAN on, which was re-airing Washington Journal with Kristen Breitweiser. A morANic freeper called in and complained about Ms. Breitweiser "being a liberal" and having the temerity to criticize the hallowed Bush administration about 9/11. With head deep in our freezer (oh, the imagery) and unable to hear, the repairman asked what was going on. I told him the caller was complaining because she had criticized Bush. He then went on a rampage about "Socialists ruining this country" and "lawyers shouldn't be politicians" and "we should take back this country" and "Marxists" on every college faculty and "unpatriotic liberal traitors." He also stated the "A-Rabs" and "Moslems" should all be killed because they were endangering our country and that "people should wake up."

As a convert to Islam who is married to a Pakistani and a proud liberal who also happens to be a future lawyer, I was growing more and more angry as I cleaned the freezer baskets while he did the repairs. Somehow I refrained from strangling this unenlightened gentleman (and I use that term VERY loosely). I really wanted to tell him to get the hell out of my house, but my practicality overcame me (I really needed my refrigerator fixed!) As I handed him the check I wanted to say, "You should know you're accepting money from a liberal law student Muslim; I'll bet my money is good enough for you!", but I didn't. I had told him twice I'm a law student, but he asked again what I do as he was leaving. I told him I was in law school, and he asked where, then said Pitt was a good school. He then wished me luck and left. I don't know if he felt any twinges about his rant; I sincerely doubt it. I shut the door and prepared to explode!!

3. The nerve some people have man
It's one thing to spout shit off on the street or in public, it's quite another thing to forcefully press your hateful views on someone else in THEIR house while doing you a service.

You're a better Muslim than I am a Catholic, cause if it was me I think I woulda bumrushed the jerk out and found myself another repairman.

9. why...why did you let him walk out without saying
i am a convert to islam, husband pakistan and a law student and a liberal.........all that you said to me was offensive and that makes me sad, that you could see me, with all that anger and hate

why let him walk out

why not alow him to think, actually maybe think about opening his mouth. i saw a wonderful gift you could have given this man, and you didnt.

i just dont keep mouth shut anymore. and it isnt a bad thing, i am not having confrontation, and it feels good to speak out adn not fear......whatever

11. Seabeyond, I see your point
And I really wanted to speak up, but I weighed my options and elected not to. Islam teaches that we should teach the uninformed about Islam and let them make up their own minds, but I felt that this man would only become angrier, and I frankly didn't know what he would do. I came down on the side of not getting into a battle of wits with an unarmed person.

she was everything he was spouting out in hate. that is all. now if it went to the point of argue, then you have lost.

you just give, and they get to do with it what they want. it might be something good. and maybe not. but you gave

14. sittin in the panhandle of texas
lol i hear what you say. yet how are we gonna be able to embrace each other if we be quiet, dont call someone on it or allow them to see us as the evil they have created us.

i have yet to have a male or even a right female do anything but embrace me when i challenge them. the reason it is important to say out loud, is they do it out of ignorance almost all the time. so many i see here mouth about blacks, but any blacks or gays they meet, oh what a nice person. this is a slow conditioning of going up against what they have created in belief in their mind

i hope next time, and there is always a next time, you will trust your fellow man, that in your expressing, you will not have danger or something to fear, and it will be rewarding

thanks for sharing.

26. Good decision
As one who has been participating in several anti-war vigils over the past two and a half years, I can tell you that the "yahoo factor", while down somewhat from post-9/11 days, is still alive and kicking.

My best friend and I have agreed that we will never vigil when alone, but only in groups of 2 or more precisely b/c you never know what might develop in 1-on-1 encounters with Neanderthals.

Still, I think you might call his company and file a complaint against him or, if he's self-employed, no longer give him your business.

16. That's the ticket
Unless this guy is a free-lance entrepreneur (and I'd bet a shiny nickel he isn't), then a complaint to his boss would be in order. Tell the boss that you don't want the guy fired (times are tough all over, even for ignorant repairmen), but that you will seriously consider other options in the future when it comes to having your household appliances repaired.

21. It is. She's a liberal, a lawyer, and a Muslim.
The guy insulted all three, even saying that Muslims should be KILLED.

Is it good etiquette to advocate the killing of your customers? You'd think the boss would want to know about this.

It has never so much as entered my mind to impose my political views on those people. If I did so and they found my politics repugnant, they'd be on the phone complaining to my boss the moment I left. And they'd be right to do so!

29. Though some of my clients have become aquaited with my political views...
...(some sharing some of them, some I'm sure not), thru my personal site, only two have tried arguing with me about them from "the other side". I no longer service either of them. I keep my political views out of my business dealings, and if a client attempts to bring those views into our business relationship, they should be prepared to have that relationship severed. Why suffer fools gladly?

This repairman came into your home and brazenly insulted you, your family, your religion, your career, and your ideals. You don't have to put up with it any more than if he'd taken a huge shit right in the middle of your living room rug.

Explain that you never want that person doing work for you again.

Make it known that if they ever send another loudmouth bigot like that one to work for you, they will lose your business and that of your friends and family.

Both had such rage and hatred in their voices that I felt that they would have harmed her physically if they could have.

Ah, but they have family values, right? :eyes:

She remained amazingly calm and gave good responses, actually answering their "questions."

. . . but I have to admit I walked right into it: I was buying a newspaper and saw a picture on the front page of an Iraqi insurgent and said, "Geez, how did the journalist get a picture of one of those!" So I'm partially to blame for bringing up the topic.
