This Is Why the Anti-Gay Bigots Are Doomed: "Bush Gals to See Gay Vows"

When Washington-area beautician Erwin Gomez and his longtime partner James Packard celebrate their marital vows with 400 of their closest friends next month, two of Gomez's best customers will probably be in attendance: President Bush's twin daughters, Jenna and Barbara.

Yesterday, the 39-year-old Gomez - a makeup expert for the Elizabeth Arden shop in the D.C. suburb of Chevy Chase, Md. - told Lowdown that the First Twins have become devotees of his popular eyebrow waxes over the past few weeks.

And, Gomez added, Bush's daughters have expressed an enthusiastic desire to go to Gomez and Packard's Sept. 11 wedding celebration at their home in Laytonsville, Md.

"I gave them the party invitation, and they said, 'That sounds great, we'd love to come - it sounds like a lot of fun,'" Gomez said.

"The way they reacted, they were very open-minded."

While this might be a campaign stunt (which I actually doubt, since I think it might hurt Bush with his base more than it might attract gay or independent voters), IMO most young folks today just don't care about people's sexuality. Everyone who lives anywhere remotely inhabited knows gay folks, has gay friends. Issues of interest to the gay community, and openly gay characters and celebrities and public figures, are becoming more and more open.

The march of time and progress and civilization tilts against the archaic bigots. I cannot wait for the future, when opposition to gay marriage is relegated to the dustbin of history, just like opposition to interracial marriage has been.

Actually, I think this great - they are doing what they want and in process totally negate that nasty week or two where they pretended to campaign for dear old Dad.

This will be one of those "parent moments" when all the RW parents can "sympathize" with Smirk and Pickles...."oh, they have idealistic daughters, too, who don't want to hurt the feelings of their gay hairdresser friend..they are just inexperienced and don't know how ghastly and sinful the gay lifestyle is....must be embarrassing for Smirky and Pickles....I sympathize...I have a naive daughter too"

THAT is what the RWers will think. Book it. No help at all and will probably soften up some undecideds and make SmirkCo look more "understanding or human"
