One of the sayings I am fond of quoting from V.S.Naipaul is:
"The boundaries of civilization are constanly being encroached upon by barbarism".Although he was talking about the situation in some countries in Africa, it could well be applied to our country in the past three years as the incessant assaults on civility, truth and reason by the Bush gang and their abettors in the Press have pushed back the boundaries of civilized discourse.Even now,the Republicans seem to know no restraint in their assaults on John Kerry and seem unable to keep personalities out of the picture and deal only with issues of importance to us all.Our Democracy is being stifled gradually and may not survive if these people are allowed to fool the American people to vote them into power for the next four years.

1. I would like to add a few more observations to this statement that
bear repetition. If one looks at how we have come to accept the use of DU weapons in the past two Gulf wars withou being able to have any say in their production or deployment would be one instance of the encroachment of barbarism I mentioned. The second is how we are being conditioned to accept the use of torture as a means of extracting information from civilians not combatants.Third is the use of the Noble Lie as a prerogative of the ruling class to misinform the masses so that their agenda can move forward without scrutiny.

As we continue to move toward a war of all against all,our basest instincts are allowed to emerge and there are some among us who actually revel in this mindless barbarism. And I have not even touched upon some of the most barbaric recommendations of the PNAC yet.
