im new here but i want to say this to those who are hurting re: media
Edited on Wed Aug-18-04 02:38 PM by faithnotgreed
and for those who are frustrated with all the different suggestions coming at them about what we should be doing or not doing. and for those who want kerry to do this or how come he isnt doing that... no one could possibly always please the gigantic tent that is us and is this country
i cant even imagine what it must be like to run for the potus.

ill speak for myself. this stuff can make you a little crazy. ok - crazier

i completely understand everyones frustration, anger and confusion about the media. i know it goes way back but seems to have reached new lows, if that is possible. and i applaud everyones efforts to stop the madness. the emails and brainstorming and all the rest are invaluable and crucial if we are to stand up for our democracy.

i love that so many will share their ideas and their feelings. i dont want what i will say here to in any way suggest that people shouldnt speak out.

but im seeing the anger here (understandably) really tear some people up of late. it has to be maddening i know. but i just want to remind that despite the blatant bias (why it is i cant know) and the overt circling of the fake * wagons just confirms for me all the more that they will not and can not make us all believe what isnt true.

and despite what they are doing, we are ahead in nearly every poll. and every single electoral college predictor we are winning. and the momentum is still building in our favor.

and we are showing up 10,000 all the way up to nearly 50,000 strong across this country. we are so hungry for the truth that its all we can do. because we sure arent going to find it on tv
we actually are smarter than that! and they dont know what to do about it except TRY to divert us and make us question who is right or who is really telling the truth.

but we are 11 weeks away. and ssshhhh we are winning. i dont care how many times they play flyboy or how many times wolf and candy pretend they speak for us. the media isnt likely to change in these last months but even they cant gloss over what is happening and the pain that * has inflicted to all americans in every possible way.

we have that and so much else on our side.

i hope people will continue to speak out. it does matter.

but i just wanted to juxtapose what we are rightly outraged at from the media
and what is really happening in the election at this point.
we are beating them.

they cant stop us despite their best efforts. because our truth is more powerful than their lies. and its so bad that even solid red states are showing blue. see colorado and nevada and virginia and...

im newish here and i know it doesnt mean much in the great scheme of wonderful people here at du but i just wanted to say a little for those who are hurting. and for those who are discouraged and dont know what to do. .

we are still winning.
and we are getting closer every day to an astounding victory. and i do mean victory....

1. I think you are rigth
We are winning. The Bush adminsitrations credibility continues to sink like a stone, and Kerry, although he could do a little better fighting back, is doing very well.

2. Thanks for your
sensitive comments. I try to think along those lines too when the anger gets to be too much. But to me, the bottom line is that we are winning in the polls, but will it be enough on election day? Will it be enough to keep them from stealing it again? With a fair media, there is no doubt that we would be even further ahead, making it more difficult for them to steal. Therefore, I choose to continue with my e-mail campaign to try to make a difference in media coverage. All I know is, if I don't do everything I can and * steals it again, I will feel worse than I did in 2000.

4. Despite your large posting numbers, still - WELCOME!
By the way, it DOES INDEED mean much in the great scheme of wonderful people here at DU.

The BIGGEST of the big points you make here is that WE. MUST. NOT. BECOME. COMPLACENT. EVER!!!!!

Not now. Not a month from now. Not in the days just before the election. Not even AFTER the election WHEN (not if) Kerry wins. Not only do we have to ENSURE his victory, but we've gotta KEEP him in the winner's circle. WE have to be the asbestos suit and the extra ammo and the MANY swords of truth in his arsenal when the Bad Guys formally become the REAL "sore losermans" and try to challenge his victory, and then chip away at his mandate.

We have to STAY IN THERE, and FIGHT like hell!

There may be some problems and demoralization after the obscene PR campaign that will be the republi-CON convention. bush is apt to get a small bump of his own. The media will probably make a mountain out of his molehill. Inevitable comparisons will be drawn between his bump and Kerry's bump. So we have to be ready for that, gird our loins now, and come out on SERIOUS offense. Same thing for just after the debates.

I think the media is vascillating now, at least a little bit. I've seen discussions of it, and links to reinforcing articles and commentaries, elsewhere here. I think some of them have the sneaking suspicion that it might actually NOT go bush's way. So some of them (like maybe Chris Matthews?) may be hedging their bets. They wanna stay on bush's good side in case he steals it again, but they also realize that they don't want to hitch their wagon to a rock. Nobody wants to be with a loser. All the toadying to bush won't get them a single seat up front in the White House Press Room when bush is OUTTA there and Kerry's in. And I think some of them have realized that.

8. Of course we're winning
The truth ALWAYS wins -- it's a matter of getting the truth out. Which is, of course, where the media fails us.

Time for another round for this wonderful quote from Gandhi:

First they ignore you
Then they laugh at you
Then they fight you
Then you win.

:-)

And, while I'm at it (since we're partly talking about the media), another wonderful quote, this time from Abraham Lincoln:

I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts.
