E-mail to my congressman
Jo Bonner (R) Alabama:

"Bereuter: War in Iraq not justified

by don walton
In a dramatic departure from the Bush administration, Republican Rep. Doug Bereuter says he now believes the U.S. military assault on Iraq was unjustified.

"I've reached the conclusion, retrospectively, now that the inadequate intelligence and faulty conclusions are being revealed, that all things being considered, it was a mistake to launch that military action," Bereuter wrote in a letter to constituents in the final days of his congressional career.

"Knowing now what I know about the reliance on the tenuous or insufficiently corroborated intelligence used to conclude that Saddam maintained a substantial WMD (weapons of mass destruction) arsenal, I believe that launching the pre-emptive military action was not justified."

As a result of the war, he said, "our country's reputation around the world has never been lower and our alliances are weakened."

Bereuter is a senior member of the House International Relations Committee and vice chairman of the House Intelligence Committee."

Given Rep. Bereuter's better-late-than-never 'come-clean' on his vote to go to war, how do you feel about your decision? As the body bags of Alabamians come back from Iraq, how do you feel about your vote for war? Do you feel you were mislead by the Bush administration and their 'pre-emptive' invasion of Iraq? Do you hold any reservations at all about where the leader of the Republican party has taken this nation?
Your constituents would like to know.

1. The troops know the truth.
We knew as soon as Bush was "elected" that we would be going back to Iraq. Why is that? Cuz most of us are from the south, and we knew he would find a reason to go finish Daddys business. We knew there would be no WMD. However, now that we are there, we are doing a world of good for the Iraqi people. May not have had a good reason for going, but now we have a damn good reason for staying. It would be nice to have a genuine ally in the middle east.

4. I expect a lot of Clinton hating, kool-aid drinkers . .
. . to suddenly proclaim that maybe this whole Iraq thing wasn't such a good idea after all, as Goober's numbers continue to plummet.

Especially in states that don't consider themselves still part of the Confederacy.

6. Iraq will be an ally....
The Iraqi people are very happy that we killed Saddams sons, and captured him. They are signing up in mass numbers to the armed service and police. They want to lead their own country, and be strong enough to defend it. It will happen in our lifetime. This you dont see on the news.....
