rate your optimism (1-10)
Edited on Wed Aug-18-04 07:30 PM by ann_coulter_is_a_man
just wondering what the overall mood is like here:

1 being you think bush has it locked up, 10 beinga kerry landslide

i'm clueless at this point, but think it's somewhere around a 4, mainly due to kerry's slip-up on the war, as eleoquently detailed by helen thomas in her latest column, combined with his tepid response to the swift boat nonsense

9. I'm in the 8 Range
This looks like a challenger's year.

Incumbents win with peace and prosperity.

Could Bush be farther away from that claim then he is right now?

Kerry will win by 6 points and an electoral vote landslide.

12. With a Fair election: 6. Knowing *'s MO, 2.
Having talked with a repub of which I agree with about her dislike of the economy, lack of jobs, outsourcing, devaluing of IT, et cetera, et cetera, she still has utter faith in * and blindly calls the media and anyone else "liberals". (If I asked her why, I doubt she'd be able to give a snappy answer.)

She is consistent with middle class America.

It's nice to know the poll gaps are widening in favor of Kerry, but * is going to pull something - and the fickle, unthinking American public will swallow it faster than a porn star.

13. why don't you try some optimism
Too many negative posts, push poll questions like this, kinda define the debate in a very non-flattering way, don't ya think? Is that the point? Let's try this again: "What do you honestly think and why: is Kerry gonna win or what?"

Try that one, rather than skanky references to crap about Kerry. And, finally, it is not "silliness", it is for our very future.

16. about a 5, did canvasing in Milwaukee last Sunday
a lower middle class /working class neighborhood, small houses,
well kept houses and yards. Many indignant anti-Kerry males.
Surprised at the young women for bush, nose rings and all.

We were instructed by the Kerry field office not to engage
the undecideds (yes we ran into some) nor the solid
Bush supporters. THe afternoon left me depressed, but still
feel better doing something.

We got work to do, people! Pls get out and volunteer.

We're going to have a party next Monday which should be fun. :->

19. Milwaukee The radio effect
The destruction of the school system, the Bradley's evil work and most of all the endless hammering by the freaking stupid talk radio crackpots really has hurt the metro area.

Look at Madison where they favor Kerry.

Well, at least I hope not. But sadly I think the fix is in -- between voter intimidation and traditional shenanigans, the absence of exit polls, a media that will tell us "it's close" regardless what polls really say leading up to Election Day, and of course the fact that Diebold, ESS, and Sequoia will count around 30% of the vote, I think Gee Dubya* steals it by a squeaker.

Moreover Pee Onya* knows it, too. That's why in all the incoherent speech, stress-induced quickening of vocal rythyms and octave-gained modulations during the MTP Interview and the Press Conference (I sware to God I thought GWB* was going to scream and run from the podium), Bush* announced with certainty and confidence that he will win. It shined out like a beacon to me. He knows. The fix is in. Period.

(How happy I'll be to have to eat crow the day after election! Please, let's make it be!! :) )

(PS/ I'm in a particularly black mood today -- ask me again tomorrow and I'm sure I'll swing to a 4, but that's about as optimistic as I can get.)

But I'm definitely feeling more optimistic since P'Lod, the famous Weekly World News alien has been spotted embracing Kerry. This is a good sign, people - the alien is two for two so far.

33. I am thinking an 8 unless things change drastically
I live in a solid republican state and have not seen a single Bush*/Cheney bumper sticker or lawn sign. Not one. Have seen quite a few Kerry signs and stickers though. I really believe Republicans are too embarrassed to display any Bush* support publicly.

Way too many variables this time around. Not to mention that I'm not all that optimistic even if Kerry wins. He's moved so far to the right now, I'm just hoping that he does win and that he'll swing back to the left once he's in the White House.

35. Formerly an 8, now a 3 at best
I used to be convinced that Bush couldn't win in a race against a rabid cow. Look at Bush's performance; he should be behind any farm animal in the polls by a minimum of 20 points. The fact that he's not, and is running against a human who is more qualified than he is, is chilling.

If, as I suspect, Bush "finds" Osama just before the election, we're screwed. Throw in the media highlighting only the negative stuff about Kerry, and I see little cause for optimism.

I don't literally NEED a stiff drink right now, but I really want one.
