Bush Vows Push for More Military Benefits
CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. - In a gesture to troops serving unexpectedly long tours in Iraq (news - web sites), President Bush (news - web sites) announced an election-year proposal Wednesday to enhance education benefits for active-duty National Guardsmen and reservists.
"These brave Americans put their jobs on hold and leave their family behind when we call," Bush said during a campaign bus tour through the election swing state of Wisconsin.

More than 400,000 men and women in the reserves and the National Guard have been mobilized since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. Today, just under 150,000 are serving.

"Under current rules, their education benefits don't reflect the high value of service we place on their time and duty," Bush said.

2. Why didn't you do it three years ago?
This should be the constant rejoinder--he can't just throw out all these campaign proposals after undermining and defeating the same for three years. He's okay with importing drugs? Then why does he seek to make it illegal? He wants to provide more benefits for the military? Then why did he support cutting combat pay? The media will just play their hapless act and the public will swallow it... again.

6. Promise em anything.
But actions speak louder than words. This asshole has taken more away from active military and veterans than any other president. His contempt for the military is evident in the fact that he (or Cheney) have yet to meet a KIA coffin as it arrives in the States.
