My Jamaican Neighbor is a Fundy Wingnut!
I have two Jamaican neighbors that are roommates, that live in my building. One of them I have been dating occassionally. The other, his roommate, who I will call D, has been getting in the habit of talking to me while I walk the dog. Had quite an interesting conversation tonight, although it will probably be our last!

Here's what came out of the conversation:

1. He believes that if you have had ONE homosexual experience, EVER, you are gay for life. Which is, of course, WRONG.

2. He doesn't believe in evolution. He believes in creationism only.

3. According to him, everything good that man has ever done is because of God. But everything bad is because of Satan.

4. Another thing, all nuns and priests are gay. See number 1.

Well, I told him, according to his definition that I must be gay then. Also that I didn't believe in god, or his bible. Of course, that just made him want to argue that much more. I told him we would just have to agree to disagree... about everything.

It just really surprised me because his roommate (the guy I'm sort of dating) is much more open-minded. Guess there are bigots and religious freaks everywhere. But... Jamaica???

1. Check out the Jamaican
rapper/reggae guy who advocates killing gay men.
It's a fundy/religious deal. Mix in the ganja, which is usually pretty pacific, and you get the weirdness (Not all highs are good highs).

5. I know this is shocking, but Jamaica is the most homophobic country
in the Western hemisphere. Fundamentalist Christians have converted the masses and, recently, gay tourists have been the victims of harassment and even beatings. Much of the Caribbean is similarly anti-gay.

I have a good friend teaching in Jamaica next summer who offered me a free bed in her apartment for as long as I liked. I turned her down. I'm not willing to live like that again.

6. Wow I didn't know that
I guess I was just so shocked because his roommate is so open-minded. He has no problem with my being bisexual, even though I told him the only women I ever dated were lesbians (so if he was thinking he was getting a threesome out of the deal, that was NEVER going to happen!).

So i wonder where the gay cruises go? There are several of them that go out of Florida to... somewhere! I was assuming it was the caribbean.

7. I've met as many Jamaican fundies as white ones
I live in the NY metro area, and that's why. There really is no homegrown fundamentalism as part of the culture here. Jamaican born again Christianity should never be confused with that of African American churches with roots in the southern US. The brand that's coming from Jamaica is much more like the Jerry Falwell stuff.

11. some gays want it both ways
He believes that if you have had ONE homosexual experience, EVER, you are gay for life. Which is, of course, WRONG.

Well we constantly hear gay activists saying they're born gay and it's not a choice. Yet you're saying it can be a choice. I agree if you're a man and you have sex with a man you are either gay or lying to yourself. I wouldn't call this a bigotted belief.

Admit it, as a heterosexual man you've had homosexual fantasies from time to time.

You'd have to desire a man to want to "experiment" sex with a man.

Are you denying free will.

I assume you're heterosexual. Were you born that way or did you choose it? You were born that way. So why are you fantasizing about all that hot gay sex?

22. Of course it isn't a choice.
People are born with their sexual orientation.

Nevertheless, heterosexuals can have homosexual experiences. Say, for example, after getting really drunk at a house party, or in prison. Its just experimentation. They're still heterosexual even though they had anal sex with another man, for example.

What's so hard to understand?

30. So if you screw one guy once, say in prison...
then you get out of prison and return to your wife and have nothing but heterosexual sex for the rest of your life, you're still gay?

Let's say a homosexual has one heterosexual encounter. You're saying that person is really a heterosexual regardless of how much homosexual sex they have?

Doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Btw, what does this have to do with political correctness?

Alot of homosexuals have sex with women to try to fit in or be "normal". Heterosexuals have no such incentive.

You're the one going around saying homosexuality is something heterosexuals can catch and they'll never be cured.

Sounds like something a fundamentalist christian homophobe would say. You picked an interesting thread to say it in.

Are you, perhaps, a member of some African tribal religion?

45. interesting

Actually, money has been an incentive for many a heterosexual to engage in homosexual activity. It does not make that hetero a homo! Therefore, your assertion that heteros have no incentive is unfounded, and furthermore, would disprove your theory that one act of homosexuality makes one a homosexual.

You were the first to bring up racism in this thread, buddy. "I wasn't specifically speaking of this guy but non-white people in 3rd world nations."
Then maybe you should have said that, or started a new thread, because this one's about a fundamentalist christian from Jamaica. Nothing about him being black, or being a member of some African tribal religion.

What's the name of that tribal religion anyways?

I didn't know. Here I am being white and hating white people. So did all those white people that went to that Eek-a-mouse concert with me. And that was the vast majority of the crowd.

That's weird.

So, does that mean everybody who goes to a country music concert hates black people?

Man, that makes for a lot of white people going around hating black and white people.
