Why I recommend watching Scarborough Country...
Edited on Wed Aug-18-04 10:13 PM by zaj
1) He is the most moderate of the Republican pundits that I have seen.
2) Because he and his guests are a little better than anyone on Fox, you are less likely to end up with a brick in your TV.
3) You can still learn what the "enemy" is saying without the same risk having a stroke.
4) MSNBC is the most liberal cable network out there in large part because of Keith Olberman, but also to the very balanced Chris Matthews and the relatively moderate (though still very "oily used car saleman") Joe Scarborough.
5) As a whole, MSNBC has the best potential to respond favorably to liberal viewership of any cable news network.

Chris Matthews "balanced?" And, Scarborough who got his job because he could stay around as a congressman because of "the incident with the intern?" I guess if you've been watching Faux, then MSNBC could look "balanced," but for some of us who've been watching the "Media Whores" for years and know how they twist and turn trying to suck up to the Repugs, we won't be convinced. Maybe folks here who watch Faux will move over to MSNBC... The rest of us have tuned out and get our info off the internet. Good Luck to ya though. ;-)'s

6. I get a lot of crap around here for liking Chris Matthews...
... that's ok.

I have a good deal of respect for him.

The fact that both the Republicans and the Democrats BOTH attack the guy repeatedly for either being a "righty" or a "lefty" tells me that the guy represents exactly what I want in a media.

Someone who's not on anyone's side. But is critical of just about everyone who comes on his show. He does more to create a "no spin zone" than any other pundit that I see on TV.

I appriciate the fact that he doesn't shill for the Democrats, and I recognize that he doesn't shill for the republicans either.

JMO.

And no, I'm not paid or connected to anyone at any Network or anything like that... :D

9. I have always
like Chris Matthews. Seems to be the only one who will actually ask tough questions... to both sides.

3. He often
irritates me, but some of the segments are funny. And he does usually listen to opposing arguments. Still pretty biased show though.

5. Joe Scarborough
gives me the creeps. Tonite when introducing his show he said that those pukey vets against Kerry are changing the undecided toward Bush. What a liar. The t.v. was turned off immediately.

7. Definately a biased show, but better than anything else "the enemy" has...
... out there.

4. zaj, I agree with you. Lou Dobbs is on the same time slot, but he's boring
as hell. Scarborough is a jackass, but I watch sometimes when I'm in a calm mood or he has someone on who will smoke him. He made the mistake of having Eric Alterman on a couple of months ago. Man, that was great! Scarborough is no moderate though. He does seem to have lightened up in the last month. Matthews is the best we have on cable. He's been hitting Bush hard since last November. I guess most Dems still dislike Matthews because he trashed Gore in 2000.

Olberman is AWESOME.

10. Matthews didn't like Gore much... he voted for Bush, but...
... he's a big fan of Tip O'Neill. I think he was also a member of the Carter administration.

He's not blindly partisan, which is a big bonus IMO.

I'm a democrat, but I have voted for McCain for Senate, and would have voted voted for Powell over just about anyone else in 2000. I really wish he had joined the Democratic Party. I'm guessing he has his own regrets as well.

12. No apologies needed... But if you are looking for a righty to watch...
... that you can tolerate, it occured to me there might be a few reasons to pick him over anything on Fox.

13. I Asked This Question The Other Night...
Most people don't know Joey was one of Newt's shining lights in that '94 "Contract On America" crap and was one of the biggest Clinton haters in Congress. He fell out with DeLay & Hastert and didn't get the endorsement for Senate he wanted. One dead intern later, he's a TV Star.

MSGOP hired him to be the next O'Reilly...totally right wing and "populist". He's tried to play that game and has done miserably. Now he's been yanked around by the network, not sure when to rein him in and not. The same goes for Tweety, but he's not as much a partisan as an opportunist who doesn't care whose in power as long as he gets the drinkie-drinkie party invites.

NBC/GE is noticing there's too much media going for the knuckle-draggers on Faux and those neanderthals don't move around much. They're seeing the success of F911 and younger ratings of The Daily Show and are trying to figure how to tap into that audience. Keith Olbermann is a start...Ron Reagan Jr. is another nice addition.

Yes, MSNBC is the most tolerable of the cable networks, but not due to their quality reporting or programming. Yet...
