OMG--who's watching Lou Dobbs.
Edited on Wed Aug-18-04 10:10 PM by devrc243
who's the republican senator from Nebraska that regrets his vote for war? There's an intelligence battle from what Lou is saying...? Good grief, there's Howard Dean on Hardball and then this on Lou Dobbs, I'm missing both due to the constant flipping back and forth. Bush is in BIG trouble. ( not that it's a surprise)

6. I think Hagel
would be a good CIA Chief, I am a nebraskan and think he'd do very well in that position. I can't see him getting the nod from the GOP for president though, not radical enough for the base. BTW, he doesn't own a voting machine company.

9. He is a partial owner of ES&S thru the McCarthy Group
Among other matters, (Victor) Baird (who resigned Monday May 23, 1997 as director of the Senate Ethics Committee) asked the Nebraska Republican to identify and estimate the value of the assets of the McCarthy Group Inc., a private merchant banking company based in Omaha, with which Hagel had a special relationship.

Hagel had reported a financial stake worth $1 million to $5 million in the privately held firm. But he did not report the company’s underlying assets, choosing instead to cite his holdings as an “excepted investment fund,” and therefore exempt from detailed disclosure rules.

Questioned by The Hill, several disclosure law experts said financial institutions set up in the same fashion as the McCarthy Group Inc. do not appear to meet the definition of an “excepted investment fund,” — at least as the committee had defined the category until Monday.

<snip>

One underlying issue is whether Hagel properly disclosed his financial ties to Election Systems & Software (ES&S), a company that makes nearly half the voting machines used in the United States, including all those used in his native Nebraska.
