DU this poll PLEASE!!! Sun-Sentinel.com
http://www.Sun-Sentinel.com

Florida voters will decide this November whether to approve a constitutional amendment requiring that parents be notified if a daughter 17 or younger seeks an abortion. What do you think?

66.3% I agree. Parents are responsible for their children and should be notified. (2935 responses)

33.7% I disagree. Pregnant teens should have access to legal abortions so they don't seek out dangerous alternatives. (1490 responses)

1. you wouldn't have to be a freeper
to think a parent should be notified...a parent must give consent for a tatoo or ear piercing...

9. I believe parents are responsible the welfare of their children
that's all...and having an abortion is a significant event which could impact the child's welfare

this would be assuming the female in question is a minor (under 18 say...might vary by state)

I understand at least as much on this issue as you..

have a pleasant day

4. Some parents should be left out of the decision
because they are abusive, neglectful or otherwise not helpful to the situation.

That's why there is a problem with having the government involved in these types of decisions. There are many individual situations.

If parents want to be involved, why not get involved with providing contraception so the problem can be avoided entirely!

5. I had to vote I agree.
I am pro-choice, but if my 17-year-old daughter were seeking an abortion, I would definitely want to be informed.

7. It is not about you and your 17 year old daughter
It is about the 17 year old girls who have lousy parents and can not tell them.
BTW, if you 17 year old is pregnant she is unfortunately now a woman and should be able to decide what she does and does not want to tell you.

8. That may work for you and your daughter...
But what about a girl who is abused at home and afraid to talk to her parents for fear of their reaction? If she's determined to get an abortion, then she will find a way, and if she knows that her parents will be informed if she goes the legal route, she'll do something dangerous.

A child who has a safe abortion without you knowing it would certainly be better than a dead one.

12. If this is the case....
... then the real problem in not whether or not the girl has to tell her abusive parents about having an abortion.. it's the fact that she is in a home with abusive parents.... THAT'S the problem that needs to be fixed..

Not take away every GOOD parents right to know that their kid (under 17!)is having an abortion that could alter them for life....

Heyo

13. So the government should now decide which parents to inform?
If I had ever needed an abortion when I was in High School... I would NEVER have let my parents know, nor would I have done it legally if I knew that they would be informed. There are a LOT of bad parents out there. Kids in abusive homes are often more worried about being taken away and put into an abusive foster care system than they are about staying with what they know and managing to make it to 18.

10. I have a fifteen year-old daughter...
And would be horrified if she couldn't have this option just because she didn't want me to know. I have taught her that she is the caretaker of her own body and that options are out there for her without anyone (including me) interfering with her decision.

I've told her over and over that options are there for anyone who isn't ready to commit to being a parent for any reason, but that doesn't necessarily mean that she would tell me in time for a safe procedure.

This is not an ear piercing or tattoo.

My daughter has taken several of her friends to Planned Parenthood to get the morning after pill because they were scared and didn't know where to go and were afraid to tell their parents. Many people consider this an abortion and it could easily be incorporated into parental notification.

She even took a boy from her summer school health class to Planned Parenthood when he got gonorrhea and was scared to tell his parents. Planned Parenthood referred him to an agency that would test and treat him for $15. What if he couldn't have gotten this help without parental support and he waited too late to share?
