"Be Safe. Make It Home" (you won't believe this!)
Just caught a segment on CNN about a new military program to 'educate soldiers and their families about the dangers of war and how to protect themselves and 'make it home.'

complete with patriotic music, etc.

do soldiers really need to be educated about the danger their in?
do military families need to understand high casualty figures?
and what the fuck are we paying for THIS propandga BS?

:nuke: there goes my head, again!

2. More CNN Pro-War Propaganda
They haven't been too bad on this front recent (since the war stopped being "sexy"), but I saw this tripe and looks like CNN's back into making war look/feel good again.

I'd rather prepare families and those who volunteer to know they could die rather than the pie-in-the-sky picture many who enlisted prior to 9/11 got and now can't get out of.

3. safety is no joke

a lot of people get killed in training, or otherwise, just from dumb accidents.

The website seems to be part of some sort of overall risk-management program. There is a link to "safety alert notifications" with reports on HMMV electrical fires, mandatory motorcycle safety training, etc.

For example, from two reports there:

"A soldier recently died after falling while attempting to negotiate the "Inverted Rope Descent" event of a confidence obstacle course. The investigation into this accident revealed a discrepancy between the two standards describing the construction and use of this obstacle."

"Recently, the Army experienced an accident involving the M1A1 Abrams Main Battle Tank. While the loader was preparing to load a round during tank table VIII of a gunnery operation, he slipped on the turret floor and fell forward, putting his left hand on the already retracting ammunition ready door near the top of the door to stop his fall. His glove was caught on the locking mechanism and when the door opened fully, the loader’s fingers were caught in the gap between the door and the bulkhead. As a result, the loader’s index and middle fingers were partially amputated and he suffered severe fractures to his ring finger."
