Error Puts Kennedy on Airline No-Fly List

WASHINGTON - The Senate Judiciary Committee (news - web sites) heard this morning from one of its own about some of the problems with airline "no fly" watch lists. Sen. Edward Kennedy (news, bio, voting record), D-Mass., says he had a close encounter with the lists when trying to take the U.S. Airways shuttle out of Washington to Boston. The ticket agent wouldn't let him on the plane. His name was on the list in error.

After a flurry of phone calls, Kennedy was able to fly home, but then the same thing happened coming back to Washington.

Kennedy says it took three calls to Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge to get his name stricken from the list. The process took several weeks, in all.

1. Not an error at all. A quite calculated intimidtaion message
Let me know about all the Bushevik Imperials who "mistakenly" got stuck on no-fly list.

But you'll not be able to find them.

7. Damn. Someone got their wires crossed. It was supposed to be...
AFTER next week's terror attack.

Well, as his brother once said, there's always some poor idiot that doesn't get the message.

As soon as I read that, I thought "Error, my ass."

In less than 80 days, Bush/Cheney will be lame ducks, so they're getting all their shots in while they still can.

Shows what they're about, doesn't it?

3. coincidence? I don't think so...how could this be an accident?
they hate Ted, did it on purpose.

This should be bigger news. If a US SEnator can get banned, are any of us safe? Who would we call? And if you are flying on a non refundable ticket, who eats it when security has you name on the list by mistake?

11. Yes... How does the average American get off an erroneous list?
Last I checked, Ridge isn't taking all of OUR calls....

This is frightening guys. Given the problems with identity theft and name mix-ups, I really really worry.

6. Lots of messages being sent to liberals this past week...
FBI will come "interview" you if you are involved in protests

GOP will use the police as tools of minority voter intimidation

Even liberal senators can be put on their nefarious lists, with no consequences.

I don't see anything on it and it can't be too recent to show up since it says "The process took several weeks, in all.

14. Error...yeah right...looks more like the work of a freeper...
we all know how far Bush supporters will go to have that incompetent ass re-selected.

Who in America would put someone with the name "Edward Kennedy" on the no-fly list. Give me a break. This was intentional. I hope they find whoever did that and fire his ass.

19. I am not sure it was intentional
Why would Homeland Security do it on purpose?
When it came to light that they did this and put him on the list they would look like idiots.
I do not think it was intentional, it was incompetence in my eyes.

22. WTF?
The question is, why WOULDN'T they do it on purpose?

And - surprise - Homeland Security already looks like a bunch of idiots. Remember the Color-Coded Fear System?

Funny that someone would use only their fifth post to come out and defend Tom Ridge and Homeland Security against a beloved Democrat..

27. Putting Ted's name on the list really identifies the low-level mindset
Idiot freeper types would automatically associate Teddy with liberalism. Like they always associate liberals with soviets? It's pre-Reagan thinking.

I would hope there would be an active investigation of how Kennedy's name came to be on that list. I would call this a security lapse of the highest order. An explanation ought to be forthcoming. And if it was some trickster's idea of a prank, that person should be easy to identify and reprimand. Otherwise, homeland security is a joke. While they have kept us safe from Ted Kennedy, how many real threats to the nation boarded airplanes undetected?

26. Senator Kenned
Sounds like a Rove move. Also, this shows you their attitude of the seriousness of terroism if they are indeed responsible.

Also, shows how this program sucks. Think how many unknown people are on this list or you or me. It would take a lot longer to get it straightened out if ever.

Remember reading about wo activists in CA who got put on the No Fly list. Don't know if it was an accident or for real. They did say they were activists but when attempted to get a ticket to go to the aid of one of their parents, could not get on a plane and had to drive across country.

There has to be a better way.
