Who do you hire and fire? (Keep in mind that I'm talking about on-screen people, whether it be political analysts, newsreaders, broadcast journalists, etc, rather than behind-the-scenes people like managers, newsgatherers or executives.)

Me?
Fire: Bill Schneider, Candy Crowley, Wolf Blitzer
Hire: Keith Olbermann, Chris Matthews, Will Pitt (I've always thought he'd be great on TV!)

Damn, the 'fire' part is hard, because there's so many people who deserve the boot..but that's just part of this SeveneightyWhoa challenge!

22. Who said anything about "journalists"?
I think you seriously misunderstand both this thread and the concept of broadcast news. Not everyone on CNN is a "journalist".

So hard to choose only three to fire.
But I think I'd especially enjoy sacking Candy Crowley, Carol Lin and Bill Hemmer. Then I'd hire Walter Cronkite, Keith Olbermann and Joe Conason.

29. Fire all the sillies.
I hate all the silliness on CNN ... anchors making stupid comments after news segments just to hear themselves talk.

Bill Hemmer, Daryn Kagen, Soledad, that goofy older guy in the morning, most of the weekend anchors -- bleah! If you continue to allow these sillies to run rampant, CNN, you might as well take the middle "N" out of your name. Call it CSN ... Cable Silliness Network.

I'd fire EVERYONE on "Crossfire." What a bunch of goofballs -- on both sides of the aisle.

Paula Zahn has gotten somewhat silly, as well, but I'll give her a second chance. As long as she doesn't show that damned Bush Sr. "Flyboy" show anymore! One more airing and she's through.

I'd like David Gergen to have a show. And Arianna Huffington. And I'm sure there will be someone on one of the big three networks who won't get the "big anchor job" when the current Tom-Peter-Dan crew is all retired ... give them a show as well.

31. Keep Crowley
I would probably keep her. Why? Balance. If we stock the news with people who only tell us one side, how much better are we than those we disagree with?

I have 11 people working under me, and I don't like 'yes men'. I already agree with myself, I don't need a bunch of people sitting around trying to appease my views by affirming them, I prefer that my views be challenged. If we stock the news with people who only see things our way, will we ever see a broader view of things? When Kerry gets in do you only want to see things that make him look good or do you want to hold him as accountable as we want * to be? Kerry will work for us, or we will be his employee?

We need to hold all elected officials accountable, from * to Kerry. Sugar coating what we want to hear only hurts us, and if Kerry does poorly in office we need to confront him on it. Stacking the deck with people who only see things our way does nothing towards reforming. We might see her as biased and with an agenda, but the many on the right see many in the press as biased as well. We need balance and fairness, not parrots who will tell us what we want to hear. I plan on holding Kerry as accountable as we hold *, if we don't than we are not better than the 'right' in this country. We cannot put all our hopes and our faith in one man, we must not leave it to him - our job is to get the message out (whatever we see that to be) and leave it to one person alone. Nor can we give that person a pass and candy coat the news because it pleases us. Dissent, left or right, is essential to holding our employees (elected officials) accountable for their actions.

When Kerry wins, our job will be to make sure he does what we put him there to do - something which I hope we all work hard on. If not, what have we really won? Celebrate in November, be happy in January, but then get out your critical hats and keep the nose to the grind. Victory at the ballot box is the start, not the end. Don't give Kerry a pass because you like the man, ensure he does the job and keep on him when he dosen't.
