WP: Senate takeover doesn't look good for Dems.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A18269-2004Aug20.html?referrer=email

There is an article in the Wash. Post today that says the takeover of the Senate by the Dems doesn't look very good. I can only speak for Ga., and I'm concerned that McKinney might not be able to win over Isacson to replace the most disliked Zell.

What do you think prospects look like in the other states? Is there any likelihood we will actually take contron of the Senate?

2. I have hope for Inez in SC
Jim DeMint is so scary and so out of touch with the plight of most South Carolinians (unemployed, underemployed, not insured, under insured) and he is trying to ride on the coat tails of Bush... but even here in SC Bush really doesn't have much coat tails to speak of. A friend of mine when to one event where DeMint was speaking to a crowd and he was hailing * but he was getting a real tepid response from the crowd.

I can only think positive until November and hope for the best.

7. I sure hope SC! That would be a replacement seat.
I'm still hoping for at least one increase! I hope I'm not just dreaming.

3. I think it's quite good, actually.
Illinois is an automatic pickup for the Dems. We have a good chance in Alaska and Kentucky.

4. dKos said Oklahoma and Alaska were both possible...
I know, hard to believe, but both races are close.

"OK-Sen: DSCC poll

Harrison Hickman/Global Strategy Group (D) for the DSCC. 8/8-11. MoE 4%. (No trend lines.)

Coburn (R) 45
Carson (D) 43

Either Brad Carson wins this race, or we can forget about a Democratic senator from Oklahoma for a long time. This race, and Tony Knowles in Alaska, are allowing us to compete in states that should be, by all rights, off limits. We can't blow these opportunities."

5. We are in trouble if people in the state of GA
don't know that it's Denise Majette running for the Senate seat.
McKinney is running for the 4th District House seat.

And it does look grim for the Senate, but you never know. If she can mobilize the metro area, she can counter the rest of the state. Also, if she can maintain the bottom corner of counties in the state that typically vote Democrat, she might be able to pull out a win. I'm not holding my breath though....

8. You're right of course! I'm sorry. I did know that.
My brain still goes back to the election when these two were running against each other.

For what it's worth, I live in Hall County, and I will be voting for Majette. From everything I can see and hear around me, I'm sure in the minority here though.

I've been attending the Dem. meetups for over six months, and it's always a real challenge to get very many people to attend. Those of us who are there try very hard to do everything we can think of to promote our candidates, but it's really an uphill battle.

9. I hear ya
I live in Covington, but very recently, the Dems out there are starting to come around. At least, I'm not the only one standing anymore :toast:

The whole state is trending Dem and Salazar will destroy him in the debate(s).
