So much for separation of church and state..new 527 Faith based iniative
Edited on Fri Aug-20-04 11:16 AM by Gin
group on CSPAN2 now....all speakers so far are African American who are supporting shrub...saying he has done more for them than any democrat ever has....and that George W laid down a marker and they want to collect on it...meaning funding for their needs.

4. This has nothing to do with separation of church and state.
You are talking about the separation of church and politics, and there is nothing constitutionally wrong with churches being politically active. The Civil Rights Era of 1950's/60's was created mostly by church activism in the political arena.

5. I doubt 527's are governed by that.
I don't like them either, but they are using the same free speech that Move-on, etc. are using. I suspect the only people who will listen to them are the extreme RW anyway. Their actions need to be constantly countered with facts though, or they will manage to expand their cause.

6. If it's a 527, it's not tax exempt
Unless there's something I missed, 527s are not tax exempt, just like any other political group.

There's no separation issue here.

7. Guarantee you the purse string lead straight to Busheviks
who are rather pasty faced.

This has thus far been the pattern for ALL (and I would challenged someone to show me wrong and find) Bushevik "African-American Groups"

They are funded and largely run by White Guys.

Anyone can find this out by doing any small amount of Googling or research.

I expect this 527 is no different.

Follow the Astroturf (fake Grassroots) money.

8. The beauty of
the Culture War.

Religion is a powerful thing. Talk of the family is a powerful thing. You talk up those aspects, while making people work more, for less, and there you have it.

How will these people have more time to spend with their family?

They're good at what they do. That's why they do it. Because they know it works, and they know that's how they will stay in control. They want a feudalistic society.

9. When our money is being doled out, everyone has their hand out
and I mean everyone, including those churches/sects who oppose Bush.

It is too bad they do not realize that it is not really for free, for it will forever put their church/sect under the control of the government-in this case, just like Nazi Germany or fascist Spain, Bush's fascist government. If you-don't tout the fascist agenda from the pulpit, don't advertise for Bush, no more money. The preacher can then, and most likely will in order to keep the money flowing, insert the divine or the fear of the divine, into the vulnerable sheep in the pews.

10. as I reflect on my post...I didn't mean the 527 would be tax exempt..I
mean these are all ministers with churches and congregations....who do get the tax exemption...so..I think this is a conflict...and they should lose the tax exemption if they preach this crap to the congregations and coerce them..by whatever means, to vote for shrub.

The whole religion thing has evolved into something other than what it was originally and needs to be re-evaluated. (IMHO)
