What's wrong with AA?
Why do these people take so much time off? Franken has just had a vacation hasn't he? Why are we listening to the 'best of' again? I already don't care for him that much, let alone having to listen to his lethargic, defensive, ineffective, unfunny shows twice.

This is a new company, hardly 5 months on the air, in an election year, and these 'big shots' take off half of the time???

2. What I would like..
is if when these hosts take off, if they could have somebody fill in for them. When the pill popper Rush decides to take a day off, they don't do a "The Best of Rush" show, they just get a similar nut to come in and take his place for the day. Why can't AA do that???

3. Yeah.
That let's us listen to Walter E. WIlliams someone who makes Rush look sane or boring non-entities who just take calls. We used to get Sean Hannity, but he quit doing it.

12. live fill-ins a good idea:aflcio ought SUBSIDIZE AA, too
why not get the solo station hosts, like those at the top of DU homepage "listen live" list.?

Guy James, bernie ward, .....

Or even the nondebaters like authors Conason, Eherenrich, Robert Reich, and that Princeton economist who does a NYT column?
They could chat with a compadre in the studio, since they would be slaughtered in callin debate format... as that economist was with Oreilley. Or filter the calls to only let known friends call in with lapdog questions LOL.

Dukakis took Aug. 1988?? off for a vacation, too, and we lost the election because of it! Reruns are moronic, AA!

PS aflcio and DNC must SUBSIDIZE AA, if they wish to survive.
We are now mostly

"a party without a voice"

==except for this newborn AA.

PS nix the new ecology show... not political enough. Nix that RW comic if he is really on AA... the one who imitates some fictious guest, to infuriate callers who fall for it as real. He is far RW.
forget his name right now.

4. er, if you didn't like it the first time... why get worked up?
Edited on Fri Aug-20-04 11:24 AM by thebigidea
GODDAMNIT! I HATE FULL HOUSE! Why won't they make new episodes?

Boy, I can't stand Police Academy movies. Why can't they hurry up and make a new one that features more of that guy that makes the mouth noises?

(who incidentally once sent me his resume and sample cd, which goes to show what his career must be like these days.)

7. I said I didn't care too much
but I don't hate Franken. It's still better than listening to just music on the computer or actually getting some work done, lol.

19. you'd think by now I'd be offered a gig doing Bar Mitzvahs in Bayonne
Sadly, my career lies somewhere in a dumpster where the Police Academy mouth-noises-guy roots around for half-eaten donuts.

5. I was thinking the same thing.............
It seems like it's been a while since all of the shows were 'live' on the same day.

6. Vacations and Air America
>This is a new company, hardly 5 months on the air, in an election year, and these 'big shots' take off half of the time???<

The reason why so many of Air America's personnel are now taking vacations is because they will be working daily until November 2nd at the least. They've been on the air since March; there was probably behind-the-scenes work going on since at least February. It's better to have them tanned, rested and ready going into the election season.

I also heard Art Bell whining the other night about the fact that radio broadcasters are told to take vacations at the end of August, so he will be on vacation. He works two days a week and takes a vacation, so I can't be too mad at the Air America people.

Edited on Fri Aug-20-04 11:32 AM by gauguin57
... but you're right ... they should have someone fill in, to talk about the latest developments in the campaign if nothing else.

Howard Dean, I think, would be a great fill-in host!!!

15. Howard Dean for fill-in host!
wow.

OK, maybe they need vacations now, but get live fillins! Surely tons of us activists would do it free. Just chat with a compadre in the studio, for fillins who cant handle the stress of callers. Like Meria {mEria} Heller of .. is it new mexico.?

20. "Best of" shows are a disgrace
Not only is it disgraceful for a radio station to air stale dead newtalk, but it can't be a money issue. There are loads of journalists, especially those plugging books, who would fill in for free or for a nominal sum (for the union rules). There is no excuse whatsoever for all these recorded shows. It's amateurish.

22. I somewhat disagree...
Depending on what they play during the "Best Of" shows. Sometimes when you have a great interview with an important guest, it's not a bad idea to repeat it again. Repetition helps messages get through, and if you missed an interview the first time through, it gives you a chance to hear it in its entirety.

Now replaying the interview with Triumph the Insult Comic Dog might not be the best strategy. Triumph may be hilarious, but that's not the interview that's going to help get messages across.

In fact, even on the regular show, I don't think there's much wrong with using 15 minutes in a regular 3-hour show to replay, say, an interview with Krugman that raised important issues, or with a Kerry advisor that hammered home important foreign policy ideas from the Kerry campaign, etc. Even if you've heard it before, it helps you remember important facts and figures and maybe articulate the arguments better in your own discussions with swing voters.

I find the shows drag on most when they get a string of dull callers who aren't raising important issues or take three minutes to make a point they could make in 15 seconds.
