Met an obvious smear-happy, Lucianne Goldberg wannabe...
Edited on Fri Aug-20-04 12:31 PM by skypilot
...last night. I was at "Doobies", my neighborhood watering hole, when a woman in about her early to mid twenties sits next to me. Somehow, the whole Jim McGreevey thing came up and I was saying that it seemed to me that his giving Golan Cipel a Homeland Security job for which he wasn't qualified--and so soon after 9/11--was what was really going to bite him in the ass. For some reason this woman was fixated on the rape allegations that were floating around when the story first broke that McGreevey was resigning. She insisted that the "rape" was going to be his undoing. I told her that to my knowledge the media had backed off of the rape allegation stories and even the sexual harrassment allegations were starting to look weak. She said that people are going to be most interested in the rape story. I told her there had been no rape story since last week when the controversy first broke. I was starting to feel a little skeeved by this woman. The guy sitting on her other side asked her what she did for a living and she said she was "in New Jersey politics", whatever that means. She suddenly made sense to me. It was quite clear which side of "New Jersey politics" she was on. We didn't speak to each other for the rest of her stay.

1. A slice of modern U.S. society.
Thanks for the vignette. You could start a novel with that one.

2. A novel...
...hmmm. Why not? Lucianne Goldberg did it and so did Bill O'Reilly, and I know I'm a better writer than Bill O'Reilly.
