Serious question - Consider the choices carefully
Edited on Fri Aug-20-04 03:27 PM by burythehatchet
What would you rather see happen, assuming for a moment that both don't happen;

Democrats in control of the White House,

or

Democrats in control of congress?

on edit ... and why?

9. not only that
but Congress can do an end run around Asscrack and start their own investigations into things like gross conflict of interest, lying to Congress, obstruction of justice in the Plame affair, etc. They can even impeach the little creep.

4. White House
A president has much more leeway in foreign policy, and can basically tell Congress to buzz off if he wants to on foreign affairs.

Also, having control of the executive branch allows you to interpret and administer laws passed by Congress. They can pass all the laws they want, but we would get to interpret them!

15. Not quite
Look at the way the present administration is "reinterpreting" laws. Mountaintop removal mining is now OK; the law hasn't changed, only the interpretation. By making such changes in hundreds of federal regulations, the White House can essentially change the laws to mean the very opposite of what they meant when passed.

The president has lots of power; appointments, interpretations. He can even decide to spend or not spend money that congress has appropriated on all sorts of projects.

I wish the split of power were a little more equitable, but for now, the presidency seems overwhelmingly more important than the congress.

6. White House
Two words: Supreme Court

The influence of a Dem Congress could conceivably only last 2 years. The effect of a Georgie-packed SC would be decades.

21. Bingo!
I would have said Congress, except for this little detail! (I would love to do some industrial strength impeaching, that's for sure)

8. White House
If a Repuke Congress is blocking Kerry's initiatives that gives us another chance to win Congress back in two years. Many things can be done by executive order and Agencies will be headed by Dems to set the tone. I want a Dem Congress too but some of them have to learn that we all have to stick together, to often they melt at any opposition.

10. Congress has the power to investigate and Impeach
It would be the best if our Representatives weren't such simpering fools that are scared of their own shadows.

12. White House
Someone must blunt the dirve to Sovietize the many executive agencies.

As it is now the EPA's main task is to lie to us and shut us up while we are posined through air and water.

The FDA's main task is to lie to us and shut us up while we are poisoned through food, pesticides, and to help drug us into submission.

Etc. Etc. Etc.

Now, given the ruthlessness with which the Busheviks have purged the current system and removed all the honest people from positions of power, this is going to be a tremedously huge task.

PLUS the Judicial Arm of the Coup must have it's Judicial Ethics restored, and while I'm not sure Kerry can actually do that, a Bushevik Imperium would ensure the most corrupt kind of Third World Judiciary we could imagine...

If we can get a large majority, that would just rock. Maybe even enough to pass some things over a veto (with some pubbies' help...)

I want John Kerry nominating the next Supreme Court Justices, even if a Republican Senate votes against his first-choice.

22. Congress
Chimpy will be around when the economy implodes due to 12 years of misguided GOP policy.

Once this happens, Congress will have the mandate to impeach, and we can have our 1973 moment.

because the president appoints Supreme Court justices. We can't afford any more goons like Scalia and Thomas, which is exactly what we'll get if Bush* is re-selected.
