2. NO!!!!!
The MoveOn.org group is a 527 and can only spend their money for things like voter registration drives. The MoveOn PAC can run partisan ads, but it can only accept $2000 from an individual in a calendar year. MoveOn.org and the MoveOn PAC are related but separate entities. MoveOn.org is run with "soft money" and the MoveOn PAC uses "hard money".

6. did they do this, serperate them,
when it was taken to court about 6 months ago? interesting seperation, and thanks for the correction, but it isnt the 527 that i have issue with. when dems signe the mccain/feingold dems were being screwed and giving repugs advantage, everyone knew. the issue to me isnt the soft money or 527, the issue here is flat out lieing and move on whatever ads arent flat out lies. that is my issue with the swift boats. that is my issue with bush ads to kerry. all in lies

11. I agree that lying is a bigger issue but
a 527 collecting unlimited donations from individual donors is an issue too if they are going to spend it to endorse a particular candidate or party, or in this case to knock (defame) a particular candidate or party. The Swifties have accepted $200K from longtime GOP supporter Bob Perry.

John O'Neill continues to insist that the Swifties are non-partisan, even though he's personally given over $15K to various Republican candidates over the last few years. He's also given $25K to the Swifties himself.

O'Neill is a partner at CLEMENTS, O'NEILL, PIERCE, WILSON & FULKERSON
in Houston, TX, which is George W. Bush's personal law firm.

O'Neill has been after Kerry since 1971, when Kerry represented Vietnam Veterans Against the Way and O'Neill represented Vietnam Veterans for a Just Peace.

10. The MoveOn PAC donation page says
"You may make contributions of up to $5,000 per calendar year to Moveon PAC."

So if it's actually per 2 years, then they made a mistake in the wording.

3. Absolutely, they are 527's. So are the VFT ads.
There are several Democrat 527 groups airing ads. The Pubs didn't expect it and are a little late coming to the party, but the Vets for Truth or whatever their name is, is a Pub 527. It's a legal way both campaigns have found to get around the new campaign laws.

5. Except that Moveon isnt affiliated with the Kerry campaign.
It existed long before Kerry was nominated so it isnt a way the campaign has found to get around the campaign laws.

12. I used the wrong word. I should have said it's a way a party
has found to get around the new campaign laws. I know they aren't affiliated with the Kerry Campaign. That's one of the requirements for a 527. They are to be operating independent of the candidate's campaign.

4. Its been a gimmick used by the GOP for 8 years or so...
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has been using their monies to run "issue" ads supporting their candidates for years in state elections. Mainly they have focused their support of RW conservative judicial candidates in state elections (TN, MS, TX, AL, etc) and have been very successful in getting their candidates elected. They have spent millions of dollars and they are not limited in the amount they can spend on the "issue" ads and the candidates don't have to report it because they are not political ads.

GOP is now objecting that the dems are doing what they have done for years. Go figure.
