I have been seeing more and more...
Locked topics lately. What is the deal? Why do topics get locked on a discussion forum. I could understand if someone was threatening violence and death. But other than that I thought a discussion forum was for......well.......discussing.

1. ANYTHING vaguely campaign-related
is locked and moved to the Campaign forum.

2. Read the rules and post in the correct forums...beyond that
I have not seen an unreasonable locking of threads. Either moved or because they were against DU rules..

Get over it!!!

7. Get over what? I was asking a question.
Maybe you should get over the idea of a new member asking a question. Look into it.

9. Read the rules, they're quite self-explanatory.

10. Just thought I would get an inside view from the actual members
rather than the fine print.

3. Read the rules. They are self-explanatory.
Since this is a private website and you are a guest, a topic will get locked that breaks the rules. There are other websites that you can lock horns with the opposition more freely. Most of us come here to get away from that.

8. If I wanted to debate freely where could I go?
If you know of a link where people can discuss and disagree could you post it. I would appreciate it. Thank you.

4. usually not locked just moved to the proper forum...if you read the mods..
message it usually says..."this discussion has been moved to this forum" and than posts the link to correct forum.

5. Most of the time it's due to people posting in the wrong forums...but
Every now and again a topic will be locked because it's obvious flame bait (meant to piss people off rather invite conversation) such as "Why did Kerry shoot himself to get a silver star?" or other such nonsense.

6. "Ask the Adminstrators" is a good place to, ummm....
ask the Administrators about any specific thread that has been locked.

As previously noted, many of the "locked" topics have actually been moved to a more suitable area.

And some topics are just flamebait. You may find this hard to believe, but disruptors do come to DU with the intent of causing dissension.
