"We support our troops! Unless they are Democrats!"
This apparently is the implied message delivered by the bumper-sticker-mentality of Bush and his supporters. I include Bush at the front of the list because this week's revelations about the "Not so swiftboat" Vet's ties to Karl Rove, George Bush and the rest of the "I had other priorities" chicken shits who DARE to denigrate an honorable Veteran's service and injuries for their own political agenda. If John Kerry's service is being called into question, whose service history is safe?

Well you know what? I was too young for Vietnam anyhow and following that conflict I couldn't join the armed services because my 'type' isn't welcomed, but my freedom has been made possible by the men and women who stepped up to the plate and put on that uniform, including a shitload of Democrats, INCLUDING a whole virtual platoon of them here at DU. I want to thank them for their service and step up as an American and say, "Mr. Bush, how DARE you? HOW DARE YOU?" Supporting our troops means more than putting a cheap plastic flag on your pickup and buying a Toby Keith CD. The blood that has flowed for our flag includes Democrat blood and it's time for us to stop accepting the President of the United States and the commander-in-chief insulting and impugning the service of Veterans.

...sorry, I'm boiling, had to get it off my chest.

1. Hear! Hear!
And that is EXACTLY the core issue of this.

All of this has been brought to you by chickenhawks and fucking crazy lifers who somehow weren't fragged by their own troops in The Nam.

3. Thank you for that rant/tribute.
Some of my family members served in the military, and others who served in WWII are no longer with us, but they were/are America-loving liberals.

My grandpa died when I was only one year old. I never got to talk to him, but I've seen his Army record from 1941-1945. He was 100 times the man and hero than scum like Cheney and Bush* will ever be.

I don't know much about his views, but judging by the way he raised my mom and uncles (one of whom served in the AF during the 70s), he was a solid liberal patriot.

6. Republicans are employing a Scorched Earth policy
Why? They've bankrupted our Treasury, ruined our international reputation, and puts us into a deep quagmire in the ME. They've tried to make this President a dictator and have not held him accountable for incompetence on not reacting to the pre 9/11 warnings.

Now they're pitting veterans against each other and destroying the credibility of medal awards process....why? Why do Republicans hate America so much?

7. Living proof here that
a Democrat can also be a veteran, honorably discharged and proud of her ARCOM. I served to preserve and maintain the right of all Americans to freedom of expression, religion, political affiliation, to burn a frigging flag if they want. Republicans, especially the chickenhawk variety, seem to think their "patriotism" is somehow more special or sincere and I find that extremely insulting. The Rove's and Bush's of this country aren't fit to spit shine Kerry's boots or mine. And once again the only place I ever hear a "thank you for your service" is right here at DU.

8. I dunno, I just saw a soldier torn apart on another DU thread
Seems no one likes them. I don't know why they risk their lives for us. We don't deserve it.

13. We dont ask that people say they like us.
I personally would rather have a hundred people denounce me on a daily basis, than have that right taken away.

I am a soldier. I have unpopular views, both to liberals and conservatives.

I have lots of reasons for serving.

And while I thank you for your concern Cham, my opinion is not worth any more or any less than anyone elses on here just because I am a soldier.

9. how bush* supports veterans
bashed McCain and smeared his record when bush* was behind in the 2000 primaries

bush*'s GOP machine question Cleland's patriotism and dedication to protect American when Cleland's opponent was behind

now we see bush* behind -and lo and behold SMEAR Kerry's record

let this be a warning to any vet out there - if you disagree with bush* he'll run you over with his mud machine

11. There is more to patriotism than licking the suction cup
that holds the cheap American Flag that was made in China to your car side window!

Republicans = SUCTION CUP PATRIOTS

12. Et tu, Dole?
As another poster said, Dole and McCain are not 'honorable men' to participate in this smear.
