so china is rolling along with their Empire building.. They have an on going program of Genocide in Tibet, about 1.25 Million Murdered, starved, forced labor death camps.. retrying prisoners in custody and executing them... destruction of housing in Himalayan winter with no advanced notice, 6000 monastery's looted and destroyed. 2 years hard labor for procession of a photo of the Dalai Lama.

now they are taking Nepal. and have a deadline for taking Taiwan.

they are not going to stop there..

2. This unbeleivable. Empire building indeed

Notice how Tibet who on maps had long appeard as a soverign state, even after the Chinese occupation, has been gobbled up in current maps as just another region of China.

Is India gonna feel comfortable with this expansion?

4. Since when is China behind the Maoist rebels.
I don't think there is any connection in Nepal.

5. I don't think China is backing these rebels
For one thing, China gave the Nepalese government a lot of modern military equipment over the last couple of years to fight the rebels. Modern China is anything but Maoist nowdays, and I think they'd prefer a stable buffer zone rather than a revolution.

From what I'd read last year, the main assistance for the rebels comes from sympathetic rebels in Northern India (Naxalites? maybe). For the most part, though, they haven't appeared to need a lot of help. Most of their better equipment so far seems to have been taken from the Nepalese police/military, according to regional coverage I've seen.

6. It'll be interesting to see what India does
If the Maoists topple the government, it's likely that India will invade. Most likely, India will simply try to reimpose the current king (a despot no less, but better than the Maoists, who have been documented to have carried out tremendous brutality).

However, I wonder if India will try to simply annex Nepal. Perhaps install a puppet govt. that will accede to India. I doubt it, but I don't see it as completely out there. India has long had territorial designs on Nepal, at least in theory if not in practice. Culturally, they do have a claim - Nepal is an Indic culture and while it is distinct, it is distinct in the same way that every Indian state is. Please note, that is not saying that I agree with a hostile takeover of Nepal or a forced annexation. I'm simply saying that culturally, such a union would make sense if the Nepalese wished it.

Also, for those who fear I'm being anti-Indian, note that I AM Indian-American.

7. Thank you for that input. It's very good to hear from
someone who knows about a subject a little more up close and personal.

On a personal note; pieces of my heart break away each time I hear of fighting and turmoil in beautiful and culturally rich regions of this world.

Except for a few countries/places on earth, most cultures seem to be disappearing, wiped out, disrupted, over taken. It's such a shame...one which humanity will regret many generations from now.

8. Well, thank you, although I wouldn't quite call myself an "expert"
I'm just giving my own hunch. I doubt India would tolerate a violent Maoist government on its border, especially one with which there are so many links. Plus, it might inflame tensions in India itself, where in some states there are small but long-running Maoist insurgencies in isolated or heavily forested areas.

Nor is it that I've read anything to say explicitly that India would invade. I'm just guessing, based on what I know and have read about South Asia.

9. China hasn't been Maoist for some time now.
Maoist groups don't consider China Maoist, anyway.
