Bumper Sticker Story.
I ordered and received a Kerry/Edwards sticker in the mail a week ago and since then it has been on the back end of my car for all the world to see (along with a re-defeat Bush sticker, and two others that poke fun at the religious right).

All of them sat there for the entire week without anything cropping up.

Today my friends and I decided that we were going to go float the Boise (ID) river. We parked my car at one of the parks at the end of our journey and then drove ten (?) miles away, got in our boat-thing and started off.

After two or three hours (our boat sprung a leak so we had to finish the last half a mile on our feet), we ended up at my car again.

My Kerry/Edwards sticker had been removed. My "It's your hell, you burn in it" sticker was partially removed and my "Doing my part to PISS off the Radical Right" sticker had been written on in scratches to say something about Mexicans--couldn't really read it...

For them to know that we were all Mexican (I don't really look it), they had to have been around when we parked my car. Which means that it sat there for a couple of hours with this defacement visible.

All the while I laughed my ass off. I mean, how childish can one person be? "I don't like what you're saying so I'm going to shut you up." Isn't what America's supposed to be about.

I didn't report it or anything (even though I probably should have), but I did go home and get a replacement Kerry/Edwards sticker for it.

Just for that I'm going to go buy 20 of them and hand them out to everyone I know. That will show 'em.

whatever. Damn, I had a friend with a pontoon back in the '80's and we had a blast!

As to the slackjawwed bastards who defaced your car, screw 'em. More bumper stickers, please!

4. No beer.
Lots of fun anyway.

It was my first. I've been devirginized. ;)

6. Yes,
I won't wish suffering or pain on them, but I will say may they get what's coming to them.

Other than that, you know, I'm not going to get worked up over it.

15. You have a good attitude.
I guess all you can do is laugh and shrug it off. How do you deal with adults who insist on behaving like undisciplined 3-year-olds? You don't, because it's pathetic, sick and wrong for adults to behave like that. However, 'libruls' will not be persecuting them, as much as they yearn for it in order to justify their behavior. Let their own bad karma bite them in the ass.

19. Exactly,
and I also think that that's what they want (for me to get worked up about it). Not going to happen as far as I'm concerned.

5. Indicative of the characher flaws necessary to support busholini inc.
Willful ignorance, psychotic projection, compulsive denial all must be present to continue supporting the criminals squatting in the white house.

11. Apparently, due to my experience on two-lane roads today ...
supporting the Bush* cabal also confers an inability to pilot a motor vehicle at any decent speed or with any decent ability. I live in southern Ohio, by the way, so the Bush* stickers are to be expected ... but the radically dipsh*t driving and having it be limited to Bush* supporters was, I admit, a bit of a surprise.

One of the people I got behind who had the B*/C sticker was driving a T-series Audi. And driving ten to fifteen mph under the speed limit, occasionally crossing the double-yellow lines, and turning away from the road to talk to his/her passenger. I shouted to my windshield (and frightened the dog while doing so), "I sure hope whoever inherits that car when you die on your way to Kroger has at least a vague idea how to drive it like it was intended!"

Admittedly, it accomplished little but to make me feel better, but since it did make me feel better ... well.

7. Similar Experience
When John Kerry was in town the week before last I closed my office so that we all could attend the rally. I left a sign on my door that said, "Sorry we missed you. We have all gone to welcome the next President of the United States, John Kerry" When we returned we found it ripped off the door, crumpled up and stuffed in the mail slot. At least the building was still standing. Anger and stupidity are a volatile mixture and we need to be prepared to see a lot of both.

9. Oh I was ready for it.
I had said right on this board that I wanted to see how long it would take for something like this to happen.

Now I have my answer. :)

8. Losers rip off peoples bumper stickers
My son's friend had a "George W, You're fired!" sticker ripped off his car.

They are so scared, they can't even tolerate a bumper sticker.

Losers!

10. Oooh, I want one of those too.
The strange thing was that my "Re-defeat Bush" sticker wasn't touched. My friend told me that whomever was responsible probably didn't know what that meant. :P

12. River boating ?? ahhhhhhhh I'm jealous! lol
Sorry about your stickers though. I kind of laugh after all this time.

Many of us have been sporting stickers or signs for a long time. I've read soooooo many stories about incidents stemming from the use of them. Some people meet with road rage, other's get theirs stolen (or defaced as your's were). It's like the war of the bumper stickers and it's starting to feel like a game...it kind of makes me giggle because of the silly intrigue of it all.

I just bought some magnetic bumper stickers..wooohooo They came today and I'm stoked. So there I am in back of my vehicle scrapping away an old vandalized sticker, giggling to myself and thinking how am I going to make THIS one tamper proof...geez.

I put some less fancy stickers inside my car; on the dash board. I've seen some folks put theirs in the back window dash of their cars. With mine, I can put them on while driving, then take them off when I leave the car. Woohoo

Oh, one person here said after they got their sticker ripped off, they went around to someone else and put a Kerry sticker on a known repubs car. Eek... No violence though. ~~Peace~~

20. I wouldn't do that.
I think that everyone has a right to put what they want on their car without interference from anyone else. What happened to me just goes to show ya that some others dont' feel the same about it.

13. Report this to the police! I plan to if my stickers get messed with.
I won't let vandalism stand. And you never know when a local reporter will be bored and look for a "fun" item in the police log -- a rash of Kerry-sticker-rippers might just be the ticket -- and then your whole community will know what immature, frightened little assholes the Bushies are.

14. Stories like this one...
are the reason I've been hesitant to apply my Kerry/Edwards sticker to my car (isn't that sad!). My car is brand new and I'd just be livid if some wingnut cretin vandalized it. I plan to put it on with about a month left before the election...by that time I figure they'll be everywhere.

16. One solution maybe
to do what I am doing. I went to ACMoore (or any large craft store probably) and got large sheets of magnet. Attach the magnet to the bumpersticker and then attach that to your car. You can easily remove it when you are leaving your car in a questionable (repug thick) area and replace it when you return to leave.

Also, as a side note, it allows you to "display the message of the day" to fit your mood.

17. I think this is my most common post on DU
Go to a local sign store and request that they cut up a piece of their magnetic sign material into the dimensions you need for a bumpersticker and put the sticker on that, and the magnet-sign on your car. When you park, pop the trunk and throw it in there so that your ride doesn't present an easy target for freeptards.

21. I just put another bumper sticker on my car.
It's old, it doesn't look very good, and certain mechanical parts have worn out. They want to attack my car because of my views on specific issues, then let them.

I will, however, be doing something a little more proactive. I plan to pass out Kerry/Edwards stickers to everyone I know who wants one. I plan to have a set of stickers in my car that can be placed over a blank spot (or Cheney/Bush sticker) at a moment's notice. Finally, I plan to write a LTTE on this subject--yeah, yeah, I have no life. ;)

In any event, I still think it's very funny that they did this. I laugh my ass off every time I talk about it.
