FLAME AWAY!! DEMOCRACY IS NOT A SPECTATOR SPORT!!!!!!
Take it away. My 16 year old daughter believes that it is. I lost her a few years ago to my very wealthy ex.

How many here, hear the message? DEMOCRACRY IS NOT A SPECTATOR SPORT?

I'm looking forward to some degree of intelligent conversation and debate.

1. Good luck
If you post about some inane remark made on an obscure cable talk show, your thread will get dozens of replies. But if you post about actual experiences campaigning, the thread sinks like a stone.

2. That's not been my experience.
Maybe its not all posts about actual experiences - maybe its just your posts. :)

4. That could be
Maybe it's because where I live the campaign is going very well, and so when I post about it, no one feels compelled to respond. Bad news seems to evoke more discussion. Maybe that's just human nature.

9. Michigan 12th District
Detroit suburbs in southern Oakland and Macomb counties.

All our canvassers are reporting great responses, and yesterday, we had dozens of volunteers working the miliion+ crowds at the Woodward Dream Cruise. We passed out thousands of pieces of campaign lit and recruited lots of new volunteers.

3. I don't think there are many here to are going to argue that.
I also think there are quite a few people here, a a great many in fact, who are doing everything but sitting on the sideline.

Just because people talk about the media on an Internet board doesn't mean we are not also active in our communities working for change. Remember that.

5. Give your daughter a DU t-shirt.
That's on the back of it and I wear it with pride.

Why does she think it's a spectator sport? She's not involved in politics, I take it? I wasn't either until Carol Mosley Braun ran for the Senate. Politics BORED me. Clinton and Braun are the reason I got involved. I was in my mid 30's then. I'm not proud that it took me so many years to care and have decided that my son will not walk in my shoes. He's 11 and is very involved in politics. He now has a stash of "KIDS FOR KERRY" campaign buttons in his bookbag and is ready to hand them out at school. He has studied Kerry on the issues and is prepared to answer questions AND he's VERY well versed on how the chimp has screwed up this country. He's been to rallies, he's been to 2 Dem conventions, he helped the Wes Clark TN campaign make phone calls and he wears political t-shirts ALL the time and Wednesday he's coming with me to canvas for our Dem Congressional candidate.

Sit your daughter down and explain to her how our country NEEDS it's citizens to participate in this Democracy or we will lose it to the chimp. Take her to Kerry rallies. Take her out campaigning. Have her help you call voters. Have her help you register voters. MAKE her help you. She'll come to see why it's important, with time. :hi: Since your ex is wealthy, can I assume he/she is a repub?

6. I think democracy is too serious to be considered a sport
It is a way of life that should be defended to the death.
