Amazing Grace and African American history.
Edited on Sun Aug-22-04 12:10 PM by Liberal_Guerilla
Last night, on C-SPAN, I watched an African American forum discussing Bill Cosby's comments(A rebuttal-debate on parenting)to the African American community. One of the guests commented that African Americans have the suffering of their forebearers in their cellular memory. And another had mentioned that African Americans sang the hymn amazing grace as they were about to be hung.

Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found;
Was blind, but now I see.

’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed.

Through many dangers, toils and snares,
I have already come;
’Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.

The Lord has promised good to me,
His Word my hope secures;
He will my Shield and Portion be,
As long as life endures.

Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess, within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.

The earth shall soon dissolve like snow,
The sun forbear to shine;
But God, Who called me here below,
Shall be forever mine.

When we’ve been there ten thousand years,
Bright shining as the sun,
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
Than when we’d first begun.

This struck me like a hammer to the head. Here we are in 2004 and the same mind set responsible for those lynchings are the same ones who dis-enfrachised all those African Americans from voting in the Florida election, and the devil Bush has the nerve to get up in front of the urban league and ask what the democrats have done for the African American community.

Here's something for you George. How about the fact that the Democrats do not choose to stand up for states rights only for a state to fly a racist flag that is responsible for countless such hangings where African Americans were forced to sing amazing grace, and prove it beyond a doubt.

Shame on the Republicans and their murderous ilk. Shame.
