4. Maybe...
when the toll reaches 10,000 the apathetic American non-voters may get concerned. The USA is bringing freedom to Iraq and making America safe, so almost any price is worth draining the coffers and building more coffins and filling up the hospitals with the maimed. Iraqis deaths? That is only colateral damage, part of the peace and freedom process.

3. I think that's low
Didn't the DOD stop counting those that died from their wounds once they got to Germany? Or maybe even those that managed to live as far the hospital?....I remember reading something

6. Rumor.
I've been watching this carefully for a year now and lunaville has it right. They have listed each person killed as well as where they have died including Britain, Germany, Kuwait, and the US. It is a credit to the people charged with treating and evacuating them that so many who were badly injured have ultimately survived.

5. "One man's death is a tragedy, one million is a statistic" - Stalin
Or, in this case, 949 (or, 963). They have been reduced to mere statistics in our glorious war on terror.

Of course, the Iraqis slaughtered are just "collateral damage"..which the military "regrets".

The politicians will assume their constipated faces and shed crocodile tears over the corpses and talk about how they "heroically gave up their lives defending freedom...". That is the "freedom" of the arms makers and oil tycoons to buy gold bathtubs with their blood.
