Tales from the trenches.
Today I canvassed a very poor, mostly white, neighborhood for a candidate. The campaign wanted to survey Democrats and try to convert Republicans. We were also to knock on unregistered homes to register, the campaign said there wouldn't be much interest in registration so I only went out with 15 forms.

I registered 15 new voters, 11D, 2I, 2R, then stopped for the day. The two Republican registrants had no teeth, but like things the way they are, who needs dentists anyway? Several households had flags in the windows but the occupants refused to register, how weird.

Many people asked which party Bush or Kerry was in, it was stunning. It would have taken days to move down the ticket which is what I was there to do.

The local party here has absolutely no interest in a voter registration drive which is why I went out for a candidate. To me it is like shooting fish in a barrel, provided they come out. How likely is that.

1. Welcome to America
I know some people in the Army who arent going to vote. Most of them were overseas, and felt that since their votes were tossed aside then, why wouldnt they be this time....Ahhhh, Voter Apathy, the Republicans friend....

3. yeah, bush is supposedly espousing democracy for Iraq
Meanwhile, here in America, people are so ignorant and lazy they don't even know a Democrat from a Republican.

You just can't imagine how bad it is unless you actually get out and talk to people, like what spotbird did.

Prior to bush attaching Iraq, I passed out moveon.org flyers at a shopping center. We were urging people to call their representatives about letting the inspections work. I had at least two people--and possibly three, if I recall correctly--tell me, "I'm not interested in politics." Then they refused to take the flyer.

Another man coldly told me that I couldn't tell him anything about Iraq--he knew all about it.

And this is in an affluent area of well educated people. It is also a very Democratic town.

Despite the fact that I think Kerry will win, the ignorance of Americans means we are still in for a very rough ride. We are also a danger to the rest of the world and can expect more "what goes around comes around," whether it's in the form of terrorism or economic retaliation.

Cher
