While I myself would not want to see it go (for many reasons) I am sure some would argue it is a sign of opression and hatred and see no reason for it to stand (I know a man from Iran who feels this).
I think we should strive to protect such places, including those of many religions, from those who have a hatred of the people behind religions. They stand as a testament and a history of mankind, good and bad at times, and faith in general has played an important role in shaping the entire world (not to mention the artistic value, architectural, et al). I can understand how some though would not give a rats a$$ if they fell.
If christians overran this country and made it how they see fit, and then another country stepped in and deposed the leaders, would many here (or elsewhere) feel too upset if they brought down some wonderful churches? If the people still held the faith, of course they would be upset, but those who did not hold might well say good riddance.
Overall though, the cause and effect this would have in the ME is what is perhaps a bigger issue. Christians who see a one world government coming ran by the anti-christ are attuned to these matters and don't trust how things are going. If the world is a stage and the anti-christ is worming his way to the top such things as this (war, et al) are precisely the things that will help him gain power. Throw the world into chaos via war, 'accidental' release of bio-weapons, etc, then storm in as a leader/savior. Some speculate that the whole Iraq war had something more to do with getting babylon than the oil (ie, oil for bushy but sets up something bigger). They see an unseen hand getting one thing, and those hands we all see getting something in return.
It may all be bunk, but if you see the overall end result as X than the little pieces of the overall puzzle we see trickling in make scary sense. Get babylon, tick of muslims, ratchet up terrorism, wage wars, create a sense of dread and worry, and then comes riding in someone who can alleviate it all magically.
I don't think true christians would want this, the less time we have as a people the less time there is to 'save souls' and more will perish - which is not the desired result. There are those who pretend to be christians who want to move it along to the end, so maybe they don't really see any hope or have any desire to preach the gospel in the first place. I am reminded of Larry Burkett's book, the illuminati - where deceit reigned as those unseen manipulated the world and news for their own gain. Iraq may well now be a puppet, but who really is pulling the strings? Bush will go in November, when Kerry takes over Iraq will still be a problem. It will get fixed, things will move on, but perhaps someone else unseen is using all this. At any rate, it is all worth keeping an eye on.
Apologize for going off on a tangent like that :) I just see this as all bigger than Bushy Boy and oil, and since I see Kerry as taking over soon I don't see what it will gain Bushmeister in the long run. Kerry can undo everything he has done, from oil contracts to the direction Iraq takes. Someone deeper has a stake, be it halliburton to an unseen, and as yet unknown to us, person or group.
Thanks for the photos, will look for more online. From the catherdrals in France to the islamic temples there is a beauty to be marveled at (I'm not catholic, but they have some beautiful cathedrals).
