Secret plan to raise DRAFT AGE to 34! Doc through FOI Act, Seattle PI
Edited on Mon Aug-23-04 12:46 PM by Dems Will Win
WASHINGTON --

The proposal, which the agency's acting Director Lewis Brodsky presented to senior Pentagon officials just before the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, also seeks to extend the age of draft registration to 34 years old, up from 25.

The Selective Service System plan, obtained under the Freedom of Information Act, highlights the extent to which agency officials have planned for an expanded military draft
in case the administration and Congress would authorize one in the future.

"In line with today's needs, the Selective Service System's structure, programs and activities should be re-engineered toward maintaining a national inventory of American men and, for the first time, women, ages 18 through 34, with an added focus on identifying individuals with critical skills," the agency said in a Feb. 11, 2003, proposal presented to senior Pentagon officials.

Brodsky and Richard Flahavan, the agency's director of public and congressional affairs, reviewed the six-page proposal with Pentagon officials responsible for personnel issues. They included Charles Abell, principal deputy undersecretary for personnel and readiness, and William Carr, deputy undersecretary for military personnel policy.

How many GenXers thought they were free from the DRAFT? Not if BUSH is reselected. This proposal is sitting in the Congress and Pentagon--NOT REJECTED--just sitting there...

If you are 33 and under or know someone who is, and this same proposal would DRAFT women too in a non-combat skills DRAFT, please spread the word:

THERE IS A SECRET PROPOSAL TO RAISE THE DRAFT AGE FROM 26 TO 34!

6. Uhhh...fuck that shit.
Luckily I turn 35 in a few weeks. I feel bad for anybody under 35 though. I wouldn't go - I'd rather spend my time in jail than potentially make my daughter an orphan to line these assholes' pockets.

I'd fight for Kerry. But I'd sooner go to Canada than fight for that asshole Bush.

10. Pure evil...
If this actually happens, I'm leaving the country.
I'm 25 and my husband just turned 27. We also both have degrees in computer engineering, so they'd probably want us.

Wondering... what happens to families when both men and women can get drafted? Do families even matter anymore?

12. However, those people chose to be in the military...
so they should have planned for those circumstances.

18. I can answer this one.
Occaisonally in the military you have DMFs(Dual Military Families). If they have children, they have to have a family care plan listing who will look after the children if they are both deployed at the same time. Personally, I think the draft is a terrible idea. Unfortunately, since fewer and fewer people are volunteering, it may be coming. I volunteer on 19 Sept 1996. I will have ten years when I get out on 1 December 2006. The military has shown me a side of the world that I would have never seen as a civilian. I think that we should have a system where all males who are fit for service either serve two years in the military or serve two years in public service organizations. This would reduce the strain on our forces. And beleive me, we need some relief.

21. Why just males?
Especially if someone can fulfill his stint in a public service organization?

13. It scares me for my daughters
I have two girls in their twenties and the only one who I feel could handle the war has two small children, but Julie is also very street savie. Laura is my little princess, you know the type, makeup, great dresser, nails, etc. I just can't imagine it, but she is sort of already military since her husband is an officer in the air force and I wonder if they would still take them. Probably...don't care.

19. The Medical Draft WILL be reinstated first next year just for nurses first
there is such a shortage.

Up to Age 44! No Medical Deferments. This is already law and automatically goes into effect when the DRAFT is reauthorized by Congress in April 2005 if * is reselected.

You will have to register at the Post Office with the SSS by May then. Just don't register. They'll draft the ones that do first.
