Mother of Dead UK Soldier to Sue Government
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A24849-2004Aug22.html

The mother of a young British soldier killed in Iraq plans to sue the government for breaching its duty of care to her son by not supplying key defensive equipment, the Guardian newspaper reported on Monday.

Gordon Gentle, 19, died in Basra when his convoy was hit by a bomb in June, just before the formal handover of power to an interim Iraqi government from the U.S.-led occupation.

His mother, Rose Gentle, believes his life could have been saved if his patrol had been equipped with an electronic signal jamming device to stop the bomb being detonated.

(snip)

The MoD came under fire during the war from lawmakers who said it had failed to supply British troops with some of the equipment they needed, including basic items such as body armor.

----

I didn't know that the British government also screwed their troops sending them into combat without proper equipment

1. hmmmm....this could be a class action against Halliburton
couldn't it, since the Army outsourced much
of this to private industry Halliburton et al?

2. Can someone tell me if private companies...
hired to do this work can be sued for
not living up to their contracts as in
providing suitable equipment etc.
or can the Justice Dept. file a suit?
