Does Any Country in the World Support the Bush Regime?
Edited on Tue Aug-24-04 09:04 AM by louis c
I'm not talking about the government of another nation, but the people.

I have never read any poll from any country in which the population has anything except overwhelming contempt for Bushco.

This includes our "allies" in Iraq, England, Australia, South Korea, Italy and Poland who have all shown their displeasure either through independent polling data or directly in off-year elections.

Our most loyal allies in the past have have shown outright disdain for this administration, such as the Philippines, India, Canada, Mexico, Spain, France, Greece, Ireland and Germany.

The neutral countries have been appalled by our actions, such as Sweden, the Netherlands, and Denmark.

Muslim nations, that in the past have supported us now have have criticized us, such as Indonesia, Turkey, and Malaysia.

My question for the day to all, DUers or Freepers (I have to search for Freepers) is to point to a single country that you can demonstrate with any kind of objective evidence that supports the US government under George W. Bush.

If you can't, then how can you disagree with this statement, "For George Bush to be correct, the whole world must be wrong"

11. I doubt that there's that much support beyond the governments
I have a cousin in Slovenia, part of the former Yugoslavia. He loathes Bush and reports that most of his fellow citizens agree. They loved Clinton and Gore. A lot of their reasons have to do with environmental policy, not just the war in Iraq.

23. Diego Garcia does
That we and the UK ethnically cleansed it of its peoples can now
be forgotten. 100% of the nation of Diego Garcia, loves mass murder,
bush and bombing innocents.... but, hmmm, does the US military count
as a separate country, even on foreign soil... likely they'll try. ;-)

24. dubious on "new europe"
The old eastern block has a generation still locked in the cold
war, who feel somewhat beholden to the superpower. The new
generations, i'm not so sure can be counted on to be a political
backrest.

as opposed to "the United States". Freepers and dittoheads live in Murka and they support Bush no matter what. U.S. citizens, on the other hand, know dissent is crucial--especially against creeping fascism.

12. What gives you that impression?
Judging by the media here in Japan that actually goes out of its way to showcase Bush's flubs and idiocies as well as the plight of Iraqis in Iraq, I find it quite the opposite here.

5. Nope.
Not a one.

No nation had a majority population that supported the invasion of Iraq.

UK & Poland hover in the 60% opposed to bush, Canada, France and most of Europe in the 70% range, and Mexico, Spain, Turkey, Japan, etc in the 80-98% range.

Example; Egypt is a "good ally" says bush...but Egyptians according to a recent poll say only 2% have a favorable view of America.

Great huh; for sure we'll be MUCH safer now the entire world hates our guts.

13. polls
There's a new poll coming out in 2 weeks, I'll watch for it for you, and meanwhile here's some;

The world's view of US

In Egypt alone, 98% of those surveyed expressed a negative view of the US, a 22% increase from two years ago.

The favourability rating was highest in Lebanon, where 20% said they had a positive view of the US {OUCH! That's the HIGHEST???!}and nearly 70% said otherwise.

In Jordan, a country where 78% of Arabs expressed an unfavourable opinion of the US overall, 83% said they liked American science and technology and nearly 60% had a favourable view of US democracy and education.

America Alone: The Neo-Conservatives and the Global Order

The turnaround in foreign views of America is staggering from Ireland and Turkey (70% negative) to South Korea and Indonesia, which shifted from a 90% positive view of America to 90% negative.

Even in Latin America, positive views toward America declined in 7 of 8 nations.

That was not fair of me to state that Israel overwhelmingly supports Bush. I think there are many of them that are apposed to Ariel Sharon and his far right wing Likud party.

16. Gap Grows Between U.S., World Public Opinion
Mistrust of the United States, particularly U.S. President George W. Bush, has grown steadily in western Europe over the past 10 months while anti-American sentiment in the Arab world remains pervasive...

How sad that the entire world is smarter than half our country. :/

"The credibility of the United States is sinking and the numbers who believe that Bush and Blair lied to them is incredibly serious”

17. Bush's Triumph: World Opinion of U.S. Drops to a new low..
A new international poll conducted by the Pew Research Center has
found that support around the world for the United States has fallen
to a new low.

Support for President Bush is especially low.

In Germany just 14 percent of the country view Bush favorably.

26. Remember, in the original thread
Edited on Tue Aug-24-04 06:46 PM by louis c
I referred to "the people of a nation, not the government."

In China, it is neither. They are trading partners for the good of the elite in both countries, to the detriment to the average workers of both. That's where it begins and ends.

Saudi Arabia? Are you kidding? Why do you think nearly every terrorist is from there, including bin Laden? If they had an election in Saudi Arabia between Crown Prince Abdullah and bin Laden, the Prince would be living in Crawford Texas after the vote.

31. Plenty of countries Governments do....
They are on our payroll to one degree or another. UK is always a strange case, as is Israel.

Australia is an extremely racist country comparatively, that has taken massive casualties per capita due to Islamic (and notably Asian) terrorism...so the relatively high level of support Bushco enjoys there (something barely above 55%) can be explained.

I don't think any "free" nation's people other than this group supports the actions of our current government.

It's not all magnanimous though - plenty of countries, even our closest allies would like to see America stumble as long as they are in some way elevated by it, that is human nature.

32. UK
is opposed to Bush, just look at the election a month ago.

Blair is lucky to keep his own party together, and he refuses to come to Washington to accept an honor offered by President Scumbag before the election. Bush's popularity hovers in the thirties in England.

Australia, from what I've read, is not behind Howard. He is trying to pick a date for his parliamentary elections that will be at a time after the US elections. In fact, Powell said that Australia should stay the course even if the Government changes. Both sides told him to "Bug Out".
