RE: */Cheney bumper stickers on cars - what I've noticed

I've been really looking for bumper stickers lately and I've noticed a few interesting things about vehicles with B/C stickers on them:

1) The majority (99%) are driven by white men between the ages of 40 and 70.

2) The majority of the vehicles (90%) are SUVs.

3) The majority of the vehicles (65%)have a pro-life sticker on them.

4) About a third (33%) have a confederate flag somewhere on the vehicle, whether it's a sticker or a tag.

Kerry supporters, on the other hand, seem to be all over the board - women, men, younger folks. It's an awesome demonstration of the diversity of Kerry support.

I'm a geek and like to notice this type of stuff. :eyes:

in Missouri--the point being that Missouri wasn't even part of the g.d. Confederacy! It's become a way to announce your racism to the world without exactly asking to be clobbered for it.

80. Regarding Missouri, research the Kingdom of Calloway.

Calloway County apparently seceded and went with the South. I remember in the late 60's, Calloway County sheriff's vehicles were marked with a emblem that included "The Kingdom of Calloway". It may have been something like the creation of the Conch Republic in Key West. That was in response to Ronnie's blockading the highway to stop illegal immigration north into the U.S.. It really hurt the Keys.

And, yes, there be a LOT of Southern sympathizers in Missouri. And Kansas was bloody for the same reason. I've had family there since the 1850's, and not the slave owning side. They moved in later, after the war.

The thing to remember is that folks sided, but not always according to their state's allegiance. Kentucky and Tennessee were tragically conflicted, even more so.

Which is why we have Kingdom City today. In fact, Missouri was technically not Confederate, but it almost did secede because the state Governor at the time the war started was a Confederate sympathizer. Missouri does have a very bad history of sympathy with slavery, and we had slaves here in central MO. "Bleeding Kanas" was all about Missourian thugs trying to wipe out abolitionism in Kansas. I wonder if kids here are even taught that these days. They like to emphasize Lewis and Clark, and that's about it.

I'm in Costa Rica and I frequently see small bumperstickers, car plates, or shirts with the confederate flag. I'm absolutely sure no one who wears it knows what it means, though.

5. I have seen a few old rust buckets with Bush/Cheney stickers

usually driven by older white men. I don't see too many here in Mass., but when I do see them, they tend to be on cars with New Hampshire plates.

7. As to the bumper stickers

Get as many of your friends and families to put on bumper stickers, here in my predominant repuke area the Kerry stickers favor Kerry about 5 to 1. I keep a Kerry hat in my front seat and everytime I pass a vehicle with a Kerry bumper sticker I wave it and get a thumbs up. Also I look for cars that have a Kerry bumper sticker to park next to, it looks great to come out and see two cars together with no W signs around, or I park next to a W bumpersticker to negate the W. Sometimes I have to walk a little bit further, but it is worth it. I have also been left nice notes from Kerry supporters and try to leave a note on the car with a Kerry sticker. It always inspires me and makes me more determined.

8. Good KC/Kansas Story

On the same lines as the bumper stickers.....

I have a friend who drives about 3 blocks to work every morning. His neighborhood is filled with upper middle-class conservatives who all had Bush/Dick lawn signs in front of their house in 2000.

This year, not ONE SINGLE Bush/Dick sign is there now. They all have Kerry signs!

When we see a car with Kerry sticker, we honk at each other and give the V sign. It's a celebration. Bush/cheney signs are small and timid...convervative. I always cut in front of SUVs showing bush timid signs. I got a huge Kerry sign on my car and my own sign: Land of the Brave vs. Fear War Mongers

10. I finally saw a car with a Bush*/Cheney sticker on it

I live in a Red State and have only seen one vehicle with a Bush*/Cheney bumper sticker and absolutely no yard signs for Bush* I have seen quite a few for Kerry and lots for our Democratic candidate for US Senate. Only a few for the Republican candidate. It is very unusual for there to be no signs for Republicans in a heavily Republican State. I am afraid to hope but all the indications are Bush* is toast.

Here at work, we have four vehicles with John Kerry bumperstickers. Also, have one on my father-in-law's van.

11. One of the funnier sights I see is a Bush/Cheney sticker on a car

with a handicap whatever designating them for the parking spaces.

Like any of their candidates really would back the ADA act or enforcing the accessibility laws. 41 was pretty much forced to sign the ADA act, wasn't he?

and all of our students have to come by my building to get their parking stickers...so I've been watching. Lots of young, white guys driving pick-ups or SUVs have the smaller 'W 04' stickers. Almost all the Texas-tagged vehicles have 'Bush/Cheney 04', and also the ones with the little 'fish' emblem. In the deep South.

18. Don't forget the Nascar stickers

I live in an area where they are building a lot of new homes, so there is a lot of big F150 type trucks with tool boxes and ladders attached to them driving all over the place. So I've had this running joke with my wife every time we see these trucks roll by. If you see a Nascar sticker or a number 3 or 8 for the Earnhardt's (??) then you will ALWAYS see a Dubya/Cheney sticker. Along side a "these colors don't run" sticker or something similar. Also the occasional "In memory of" sticker or a Country music station sticker. Behind the wheel you will ALWAYS find a grizzled white man in his 40s.

At first my wife just laughed off what I was saying, now she plays the game right along with me. If we see a Nascar sticker from a far we try and guess what the other stickers will be and who will be driving. Sounds pretty sad, but it's funny as hell. This is in So. Cal. BTW.

I see lots of Kerry stickers around and not as many B/C. It's been surprizing, to say the least. Of course, Kannapolis, the home town of Dale Earnhardt, has been struggling with massive unemployment since Pillowtex shut down. So, maybe a few of these guys are putting two and two together and figuring out that * isn't the answer.

but Jo co (KS suburb of Kansas City Mo) is mostly country club Republicans as opposed to the bible thumpers that dominate the GOP in rural parts of the state. Many moderate, thoughtful Republicans are not too happy with * although unfortunately there are not very many Republicans who are both moderate AND thoughtful.

came by the other day in his huge dually truck. On the back of it are numerous stickers that say, "NRA," "Colorado Association of Law Enforcement Officers," "KYGO Country Music," and "God Bless America." Joe loathes *. I had an extra Kerry sticker and he snatched it right up and stuck it on the back beneath the NRA stickers and above the KYGO sticker. My husband said, "Joe, you're gonna make heads explode!"

I live in the * part of Maryland, but I see about a 50/50 split on cars. This AM, I was behind a Dodge Neon with a Bush/Dick sticker and I thought to myself what would someone who driving a modest automobile such as a Neon be doing with that sticker. Perhaps it is presumptuous on my part(they may just be frugal or it is the second or third car) but, there they were, driving along as if there was nothing odd about the scene. I've noticed a high correlation in Los Angeles between Bush\Cheney bumperstickers and pro-Israel bumperstickers (on a blue Star of David usually, with text such as "United Against Terror"). Most of the Bush\Cheney bumperstickers out in L.A. tend to be on SUVs (the really expensive ones), although I can't determine race and age of drivers.

Since the vast majority of people up where I live are white, I would assume that most of the people with Bush stickers are white, but so are the majority with Kerry (and other Dem candiate) stickers.

On the back of a full size chevy van, eighties vintage. It was driven by what I think was ex military, when he got out he carried himself like someone who'd been there, had the walk, neat trimmed moustache, a real koolaid drinker.
The only other one I've seen was lying in the back window of a modest plymouth at a hobby supply store, probably a social issue voter.
On the other hand I've only seen one other Kerry sticker, and no yard signs.
I don't think they're being to smart at Kerry gear, the stuff is priced about right, but they're making a killing in s/h, and from what I've heard they come by pony express.

The other two items I haven't seen here in California. I've seen the stickers on a couple of Lexus' and BMW's as well, come to think of it. Luxury cars. And a few of those giant pick up trucks- you know, the "little dick" ones.

I've noticed the exact same things. I have yet to see a W sticker this time, on anything less than a 40k SUV around here. And.. for a pretty conservative area, I've seen very few of them. Yay! Mostly Kerry, or just stickers slamming Bush:

53. Funny how we can't help measuring "support" this way

I had a strange encounter on the mountain a few weeks ago. I was driving in the far right lane of a busy, congested four-lane area ( which means - at least here - that about five other cars were on it.) I noticed some flags ahead in the left lane, then a guy a few hundred feet away running back for them.

To protect the guy ( and the flags) I quickly veered into the left lane and stopped a dozen feet from the closest flag, watching the older yuppie lumber toward me to retrieve them. His van was pulled over to the left up ahead.

After he rescued his flags, I told the kids we'd check out those bumper stickers on his van ( Couldn't see them too well from where we were, but they looked like the */C Colors). He waved. I pulled away but drove past him real slow, so he could see my Kerry sticker.

Sure enough, his van was plastered with Bushista regime stickers. I wanted to yell back, "If you'd support Kerry as the candidate, those flags might not be too embarrassed to stay on your vehicle." I didn't. But I thought:

Weird. I bet he'd have never done the same for me.

And one of my white, female friends with a small white sports car was showing off her sticker ( but saying that she wanted it off after the election? I didn't probe deeper) and it was just a tiny white circle with a W "04 printed on it. My Kerry sticker is in the window, but only to keep it from getting vandalized or stolen. I'd be proud if it stayed on the car forever...

I just bought a BMW 2 weeks ago. It was a used lease return, and a 2001. I have nothing on it, mainly because I just bought it, and have heard numerous horror stories about partisan mouthbreathers committing vandalism and keying...I'm not ready for that, especially since I haven't made my first payment. I am NOT a Yuppie...call me a Eurosnob!:D

I've seen many more Camrys and Altimas with Jesus fish on them than VW, BMW, or Mercs.

I keep my cars a long time. The Mazda I traded in, I had for 7 years. Many liberals drive european cars because of the build/reliability/longevity and gas mileage, think 70s gas crunch and conservationists, so don't think that everyone in a Volvo, Merc, or BMW is a Repug.

81. Driving down the streets in Colorado Springs, SEARCHING

for Bush Cheney stickers. Yesterday and today, not a one, until, riding east on Constitution, the boy child and I see a Ford Expediton (beige) with a Bush Cheney sticker and an American flag sticker. At the next stoplight, we slow down next to him, as I recall arnheim's post and relate it to my amiable son, I ask him to inch up a bit so we can view the driver. He is indeed, over forty, probably over fifty, and uses the Rumsfeld philosophy of hair treatment. Big, huge smile and a chuckle from the boy child.

I've seen them on SUVs from New Jersey. Most driven by white guys, but some driven by 30-40 year old blonde women.
Driving to Atlantic City on Sunday saw one on a Saturn, driven by an older white woman. She also had a 'Boycott France' sticker on the car. I did manage to get in front of her (safely, I might add. No cutting off) so she could get a look at my 'Bush Lied, Thousands Died' sign and the Kerry/Edwards sticker.

We also saw a brand new GMC pickup, driven by a crew cut white guy with a Kerry/Edwards sticker and an IBEW for Kerry sign on it. Still had the price sticker in the window and temporary Jersey tags. Caught him at a light, gave him a big grin and a thumbs up.
Tried to persuade Mrs Gone Off Shore to flash him, but she thought it would be inappropriate on a Sunday afternoon going to a funeral.

I live in conservative southern oregon. (Sure, the state squeaked by for Gore, but not thanks to this county which went 13,000 more for the dimson.)

I often drive on the interstate and am proud to report almost NO stickers for the evil duo. Last election the place was practically wallpapered with them. After 9-11 it was flags and united we stand stickers. They're pretty much gone, too.

I am starting to see Kerry stickers. Will keep an eye out for the W '04 stickers... boy talk about not being proud enough to say it loud...
