Is Babra Streisand really that bad for Democrats?

A co-worker who claims they are not Republican or Democrat said to me last night, 'The right has Ann Coulter & The left has Babra Streisand".I was surprised. I thought the right cliams that Michael Moore is our Coulter. When I asked to explain, they said Babs is just as radical & just a big of a fool to the left as Coulter is to the right.

Okay, what am I missing.Perhaps I am biased, but I thought Babs was pretty smart. Has she done ANYTHING to compare her to a radical or done anything to put her in Coulter's league? I really couldn't argue cause I didn't know if I was missing something. I will see them tonight & would like some ammo if I can find any.

..she just strikes me as sanctimonious and egotistical in every interview I've seen or read with her. I've never liked any of her movies and I don't like her singing, despite being exposed to both throughout my life due to friends/family. It's great that she's a dem, but she still annoys the hell out of me as an entertainer/performer. And last I checked her chosen profession was in fact entertainer/performer and not "good dem".

That movie is a freaking work of genius.

It's hearbreaking for me, because the young woman who plays Barbara Streisand's character as a girl looks just like my mother did at that age, and my mother was sexually abused by her father too.

I think Streisand gets very little exposure...she wouldn't perform for years, and she doesn't do that many movies...the wingnuts give her more play than she could ever ask for.

My parents are absolute religious wingnuts, and they don't know who Ann Coulter is. I'm not convinced that that many non-partisans know who she is, which tells me that the OP's friend is more than likely partisan.

I roasted a co-worker the other day in the breakroom while he said that kerry was a liar while Tom Brokaw on NBC just debunked that whole swift liar ad. Then I said and you know what * was doing when kerry was there? Being AWOL.

he then shot back and said well at least he wasn't a baby killer.

I blew up on him at that point and told him to go tell that to every Nam' vet we had there that, cuz he would get punched in the face. Then as people gathered around to listen to what we were arguing about quite a few laughed at him cuz he said he supported bush and telling him that I had a point and that most of the stuff I was teling him about was TRUE and has been happening.

lol, we shook hands afterwards cuz I don't hate him, I've known him for a couple of years and he is a decent person. I just told him when I hear B.S. I have to call them on it. :D

The repubs do not like her because she has been active in politics for the democrats. She is certainly NOT obnoxious, evil and cruel like THEIR Ann Coulter. specific in her accusations? There is the point that Ann is a liar and Barbra is truthful. If your friend is reasonable you can destroy any of Ann Coulter's lies with no problem. I've heard Streisand discuss politics a few times. She is not at all like Coulter. She is dispassionate, but firm, in her beliefs. She is not mean spirited. She does not attack the person, but is against certain policies, instead.

Compare that to Coulter, whose written article about the Dem. Convention included personal insults about the appearance of the people attending. Silly, high schoolish stuff that serves only to hurt and insult people, not to inform or persuade.

They are not at all alike, and anyone who says so is not listening to either. But this is par for the course for the died-in-the-red Bush supporters. They simply do not tolerate anyone who does not 100% support their religious leader, Bushman.

And there's hardly any comparison to Coulter. When was the last time you saw Babs on a pundit show? She doesn't do them.

In fact they like to mention her because she is reclusive and ultra-wealthy. Since the public knows very little of her private life, it helps reinforce the image of "otherness", "jewishness", "limousine liberals" and being off in "la-la land".

They seldom mention how her impoverished upbringing in Brooklyn might have had something to do with her social consciousness and desire to help others.

Also, I'm pretty sure babs has never publicly wished that her political enemies be killed in a terror attack as Coulter has, In fact, I've never heard her talking trash about anyone.

Another difference is that Babs has a cadre of close friends and a life filled with family and love.

Coulter, in her Miami Beach pad, always close to gay pal Matt Sludge strikes me as nothing but a bitter old fag hag. Hell, she couldn't even find herself a decent fag.

I must have missed all of Streisand's columns, books, pundit-show appearances where she talks politics (not songs or movies), if she's supposed to be the "left equivalent" of the Coulter-geist. Somehow the repetition factor just isn't there.

It really doesn't matter, and it wouldn't matter if Babs didn't say anything anywhere. She's just a "target of opportunity. If it wasn't her, the Demonizing Dipwits of the Right would just find another one.

Read her website. She's intelligent and thoughtful, certainly on the left, and a a hardcore Democrat who hates stupidity.

I admit I went through a period where I bought the image the media sells of Streisand as a radical left wing Hollywood type, but, as is so often true, that's a gross oversimplification. Once I actually paid attention, I found myself liking the person behind the image. If your friend is truly a centrist, I bet reading some of what Streisand writes would change their mind at least some, as it did mine. The Democrats are damn lucky to have someone of Streisand's intelligence and passion on their side.
