US To Attack N Korea At End of October?
From Bill Smirnow

From John Whitbeck -

Buried in an article in today's International Herald Tribune, without any particular emphasis, was a significant item of information: -- The United States has scheduled naval exercises off the coast of North Korea at the end of October.

1. I doubt it. Navy conducts operations everywhere all the time.
If there's going to be an attack, I would look to Iran first.

they were attacked by a patrol boat. Hey, if it worked at the Tonkin Gulf, it can work again with NOKOR......

9. Wow. BushCo is going to be amazingly busy this fall. . .
So far, DUers have floated these perceived schemes:

Invade Korea. Invade Syria. Invade Iran. Capture bin Laden. Drive down the cost of gas. Cancel the Election. Declare Martial Law. Create 2.6 million jobs (good paying ones, too). Assassinate (your pick of possible Democratic targets). Dump Cheney. Run McCain for VP (or maybe Giuliani). Dump Bush. Run McCain for Prez (or maybe Giuliani). Bring the troops home for the Election. Assassinate (your pick of possible Republican targets, to garner the sympathy vote). Scare us all into voting Repube. Kill the Press Corps. Start WW3.

And that's just from today.

12. Paraonoid but ...
... illuminating.

BTW, we cannot invade North Korea. The Chinese would NEVER stand for it. We would be smack in the middle of a second Korean war between ourselves and the Chinese. Alan Alda would have to come out of retirement.

15. I think your list simply underscores all the opportunities Shrub has
He BSed his way into the white house. He manipulates and exploits Americans' fears on a virtually daily basis. He has made political moves so audacious that most of us...even we DUers...are shocked. The question for many of us is not whether he will use one of these items...it is which one(s).

22. Well.......
We only have two combat brigades in South Korea. Not really enough to invade the north (even if the Chicoms stay neutral).

missiles at Iran and say "see, we're still at war....can't change horsemen in the middle of an Apocalypse." (vote for DimSon)

This would take the cake as the single most idiotic decision ever made in all of mankind.

20. We lack the Infantry.
Like Iraq and Afghanistan - Iran lacks good targets for air, and what little the navy can hit sans cruise missiles.

Unless we have been working at some amazing coup - we can't even start in Iran.

21. People seem to forget
That Korea ALMOST became WWIII all because McArthur wnated to nuke China. That's why Truman canned his ass.

The Chinese today are no less happy about having a hot Korean war on their border.

A war on the Korean peninsula would create the greatest slaughter since WWII in terms of both people and destruction.

I'm not saying a war in Iran would be horrible, it most definitely would. But it doesn't have the same impact that any war does that comes close to involving the Chinese.

No good can come of this.

18. No, the middle east is the target, Iran is next.
North Korea is just a thorn in thier side, Iran is the prize they salivate over.

19. too cold, even the bozos in the pentagon know this
Never start a war in asia towards the winter. The extreme cold
favors the defender. They've all read "the art of war" and know
better. Rather it is just another of a long line of exercises to
show capability and flex muscle off CHINA!

23. I have two thoughts on this. Neither one of them are good.
One: I another amazingly arrogant and completely unnecessary show of force by the Bush administration in the form of a military exercise. One that would escalate level of paranoia in both the North Koreans and the Chinese.

Two: Utterly idiocy and treason in the form of preparing for a war against Korea. A war NO ONE could possibly win without it being the epitome of a Pyhrric victory. Think slaughter wholesale.

Now ask yourselves, could George W. Bush be so stupid, as to pull off a stunt like this as a part of his campaign to resteal the White House?

I'll give you a minute to think about this.
