Poll question: Do you feel the human potential movement of the 70s/80s
helped the Republicans more or the Democrats more? Most of the leaders of that movement are Democrats. The movement made people feel good about themselves and the idea was that, if they felt good about themselves, they would feel good about everyone. But a great many people came away with the "I'm okay regardless of what I do, the heck with you" idea that fits in perfectly with the Republican agenda.

If you don't know anything about the human potential movement (Lifespring, EST, Aras, etc.), you might want to sit this one out.

1. I thought it was the bottom line movement
Bottom line is, does it make me feel good, does it enrich me, does it work for me.
Another way of saying the end justifies the means.

2. I think the effect is pretty negligible...
since those movements were pretty fringe and limited to elites on the coasts anyway.

The vast majority of Americans have never heard of either.

3. A lot of Congresmen did Lifespring. They had a special training in DC
I understand that was the only training where everyone got the red-black game right.
