Cheney Breaks from Bush* on Gay Marriage Amendment!
What is going on here? A quick shift to the middle for the gay vote?
DAVENPORT, Iowa (CNN) -- Vice President Dick Cheney said Tuesday he believes the question of same-sex marriage is best handled by the states -- a position that puts him at odds with President Bush who proposed amending the Constitution to ban such unions

1. Good to know that his daughter has influence over Crashcart.
She must be extremely persuasive.

4. I think the influence was more from his wife.
He wandered so much during that speech, that you could never get a distinct short sound bite from it. His heart wasn't in it.

9. Way way too late for his position to be based on his daughter
He sold her out months ago. Why bother to change his mind at this late date as far as she is concerned the damage is already been done.

Must be polling results - Christians moving away from Bush - or Plamegate's gonna bite him, why not go out in flames.

3. Trying to grab up that other "conservative" base
The one that supposedly believes in states' rights. When they were debating this in the Senate, McCain's reason for opposing the amendment was due to a states' rights issue.

Besides, look at what happened in MO.

Cheney knows that if states put it up to a vote, many states will resoundingly shoot down gay marriage. Why? Because homophobic, white trash, redneck, Limbaugh-listening assholes love to push people around and force their twisted views on others. And they will therefore come out and vote in record numbers.

Meanwhile, it is really hard to motivate liberal-minded but inactive people, as well center and left of center people, to go out and vote for something that they don't percieve as having any impact on their lives.

5. Ridiculous and duplicitous
Edited on Tue Aug-24-04 09:29 PM by rocknation
Ridiculous because you can't be married in one state but not another while hetereosexual marriages are recognized federally. And duplicitious because it's just part of the "moderating down" of their strategy just in time for the GOP convention.

6. When something affects these guys
personally it becomes a different story. Nancy Reagan and a whole group of them are all for stem cell research because of old Ronnie. Maybe we should take their healthcare away then we would get universal coverage pretty fast.
