Kerry does ``The Daily Show' Part Deux
- MARY DALRYMPLE, Associated Press Writer
Tuesday, August 24, 2004

(08-24) 16:45 PDT NEW YORK (AP) --

After weeks of charge and countercharge in the presidential campaign, comedian Jon Stewart tried Tuesday to get to the bottom of the debate over Democrat John Kerry's military service in Vietnam.

"I watch a lot of the cable news shows, so I understand that you were never in Vietnam," asked Stewart, host of Comedy Central's "The Daily Show."

2. Kerry picked the perfect forum for rebuttal...
I don't think that the Swift Boat Liars dare show up on The Daily Show.

5. Kerry was terrific!!
He was warm, relaxed, amusing, interesting. I thought it was a flawless performance. What a brilliant choice to go on there.

8. well, he certainly mined an area bush will never get
aaron brown had a long segment on ccn at 10pm tonight featuring jon stewert and TDS. showed pretty clearly that TDS/Stewart is as influential as any media in getting to the 18-34 year olds.

it was a good move by kerry, neither bush nor cheney would have the guts to come on TDS.

but kerry had better get a better make-up artist, he looked like he was a face on the paper currency.

9. That Is Why John Kerry Didn't Do The Daily Show During The Primaries
He was saving it for the right moment. Homerun if you ask me. As far as currency goes, he will be on it one day.

10. Mary Dalrymple doesn't do the interview justice.
Her write up was weak and sad. It rarely used any highlighting of what actually happened and made no reference to John Kerry's relaxed style and joking manor.

"As Kerry launched into one of his lengthy monologues about why President Bush avoids..."

"Stewart and Kerry then lean in and stare each other down over the comedian's desk before Stewart asks about some of the other things Kerry's opponents are saying about him." (The way that is worded makes Kerry seem some what hostile when it wasn't.)

So on and so on. It would have sounded so better had the writer simply used a few extra words adding "laughing" and "chuckling" and other such adjectives in there to describe Kerry's demeanor would have been MUCH better. Without those it makes John Kerry look stiff and John Steward as the one who was doing all the laughing and making the jokes.

14. Lengthy monologue? Did she even watch the show?
I was a little annoyed (just a little) that Stewart didn't give him much of a chance to talk, kept asking new questions.

11. I'm sorry to have missed it.
Not only don't I have cable, but at present I don't even have a TV set! But all I really miss about the damned thing is watching THE DAILY SHOW.
