Prior to GOP Convention Hastert Pisses off New York--Very Stupid
9/11 SLAP AT APPLE

By VINCENT MORRIS

August 25, 2004 -- WASHINGTON — House Speaker Dennis Hastert is charging in a new book that New York lawmakers' attempts to win financial aid after the 9/11 attacks amounted to an "unseemly scramble" for money.

Just days before the GOP convention is set to begin in the city — and three years after the catastrophe from which many city businesses have yet to recover — the Illinois Republican's ugly slap at the Big Apple infuriated New York legislators.

"The only thing unseemly is the three years it has taken us trying to get the president and Congress to fulfill their promise," said Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.).

"What's unseemly is that the $20 billion became the ceiling, not the floor, in help to New York, when so many needs remains," she added.

1. here's what's unseemly, hastert
That we in the NY area have to take the hits for the crappy foreign policy that you and your bushco buddies have peddled for the past 30 years.

2. The POST said this! Good!
That means even conservatives in NYC will be pissed off. Hope the Big Apple gives the RNC the cold shoulder.

3. Even more unseemly
NY uses 9/11 to "win" financial aid to rebuild and never get it despite "scrambling", yet Bush, uses this failure to push through ever Right Wing Nut fanatasy he can, and that to Baster -- I mean Hastert, is OK.

I'd call him a Schmuck, but it would be an insult to male genitalia everywhere.

12. Even MORE unseemly is that they probably helped pull 9-11 off.
They are like dogs protecting "their" food.

5. Considering how much federal money goes
from NY to repub red states, Hastert should be on his knees thanking NYers.

9. Ain't that the truth!!!
Those red states are nothing but parasites - NY never comes close to getting back what they pay in federal taxes. Feh on Hastert.

6. Yep
Somehow I get the feeling that if 9/11 had befallen Cincinatti, Ohio this Congress and president would be bending over backwards to give them as much money as they wanted and as fast as they wanted.

7. Unseemly scramble for money?
Would that be like the airlines showing up at the WH after 9/11 and scrambling for fifteen billion dollars in aid? Is that the sort of scramble you're talking about, Mr. Speaker?

:argh:

11. The only thing unseemly is
using the same NYC as a backdrop to get your boy elected (the first time) and he didn't get off his ass to defend it to begin with.

15. The post is a rag, but they know how their bread gets buttered
They live and die by newsstand sales, and will do anything to appeal to New Yorkers' sense of loyalty and hometown pride.

16. little turd of a man---what of the airlines?
I recall their hands were out by the end of that day.

What a fucking zero this guy is---oh, and surrogate for Bush* and Cheyne to play to the "red states" to diffuse their upcoming problems during the convention. You boys screwed up that plan to glorify yourselves at the scene of the crime.
