Kerry's appearance on The Daily Show was inspiring
After watching Kerry last night I came away with an even greater belief that he has the potential to take this country in a better direction. He actually has the desire to raise the level of dialogue within Washington, within the media, and in our local communities. He cares about, listens to, and respects the opinions of the citizens of this nation. He understands that John Stewart is one of the best news anchor's around these days and as Stewart said at the beginning of the show, that is just sad. You could tell that there was a mutual respect between the two of them. Hell, Stewart even seemed a little nervous at first but Kerry had the ability to make him comfortable and get into some fun and intelligent dialogue.

Kerry did attempt to dodge a question or two but with sound bytes being the major form of news coverage these days you have to be very careful. I may be wrong but underneath Kerry's appearance of relaxation he also seemed a little tired out and disheartened by the tactis of the Bush campaign. Since he was basically speaking to his base I think it was a side he was not afraid to show. He has been on the political scene for many years now and it seems even he is a little shocked and saddened at the election coverage and the lack of intelligent dialogue within our media and overall election process. He is attempting to talk about real and important issues and all we get bombarded with is the swift boat bullshit. How dissapointing.

Congratulations to John Stewart for giving Kerry the opportunity to sit back, relax and have a pleasant and intelligent interview with his base. Hopefully we will see a repeat visit soon and John Stewart given a front row seat at the inauguration

1. I'm really confused
I tried to watch it last night, but instead Stewart was on with some other guy (I can't remember) and then said that Kerry would be on tonight instead as a change of schedule. I hope I didn't miss it - but I missed the first few minutes and didn't see the date on the show. Anyone else in Chicago have this happen?

16. You watched the repeat of Monday's show.
Last night's show will be on today. I get it at 4pm. What are you in Chicago? Central Time? I guess you would get it at 7 pm. It's worth watching.

5. The more I see of John Kerry...
the easier it is for me to envision him as President.

I know he's already come under criticism for being "too stiff". But if he'd tried to tell a lame joke, or play a musical instrument and done poorly, it would only have provided more fuel for criticism.

I think he did just fine, and he seemed comfortable. I'D sure as hell have a beer with him! (Or cognac, whatever he's drinking. I'd even buy the first round.)

7. agree, he was just himself, i think that's what people like about him
for all the criticism he gets about being stiff , he still doesn't try to put on a phony act to try to appeal to the idiots.

first of all he isn't as stiff and boring as the whores claim. but he is very serious but he is also very easy to get along with and does well in humorous situations.

9. I still can't believe that "too stiff" is considered legitimate criticism.
The age of television sucks. Imagine- the same people who call Kerry "too stiff" will then say Bush does well because he's "affable" or "approachable".

Image has been a concern since television started, of course- but these days it seems like image is the ONLY concern for most TV "journalists". It's so superficial.

8. Excellent post! I totally agree.
It was good to see our next president be able to take Jon Stewart's jokes in good stride. Kerry is very presidential, & you're right on about his showing respect to everyone he meets. I look at it as an indication that he's a secure & confident man. The more I learn about Kerry, the more I like him.

10. Let's also not forget TDS has taken some shots at Kerry, too...
I mean, yes, Jon Stewart is obviously on our side. But he and his writers have taken the whole "Kerry is boring" myth and run with it.

Kerry has to be a REALLY good sport with a great sense of humor to still appear on the show!

11. I watched it twice
Once last night, and then again at 10 am. Kerry was not stiff. He was Kerry. Dignified, human, warm and funny. He and Jon played off eachother well. Only problem I have is I have a crush on both of them. Didn't know who to look at more.

12. Kerry is one cool customer.
They are going to keep trying the "frenzied, wild-eyed, panicked" meme but it won't stick. I don't think Kerry has a panicked bone in his body.

And i just loved that tie he had on last night.

I have no worries that he won't stick it to Bush, but you gotta let him do it his way.

13. Actually, he sucked
Jon kept giving him an opportunity to rebutt some of the smears, and he kept acting like he was either stoned or drunk, OR that they were true and he had nothing to offer in rebuttal. Clueless!

:wtf:

Stewart finally took a different tack.
