Is Dick Cheney Human?
Vice-President Cheney actually showed a human side of himself for the first time that I can recall.

I can't see any political advantage to his distancing himself from George Bush on the subject of Gay marriage.

I have to assume that he really loves his daughter(s) and respects his wife.

He has moved up in my opinion ladder. I used to think that he was the most evil man in the Bush Administration, but he has fallen to fourth behind 1.Bush, 2.Rumsfeld, 3. Ashcroft, and now 4. Cheney.

He still may be evil to the rest of the world, but at least his family can count on him.

31. If it weren't his daughter, he would be railing and supporting the ban
right along with Bush. He is human in that he couldn't turn his back on his own daughter. But if this had been Chelsea the RW would be saying that it was the parents fault for their daughter being gay.

3. The Cheney Effect has worked on you....
I would like to agree with you, but I think that this is just an attempt to soften their hatred of gays. It's all politics. Nothing more.

11. Please don't get me wrong
I hate the m**ther f**ker.

But I don't think he is worse than Bush. I firmly believe GW Bush will use and abuse his own family.

All I'm saying is that this wedge issue now is a wedge between Republicans with Cheney's statement. That's the first time he has shown any compassion in public. Granted that it is for his family, but I firmly believe Bush would not have done it, even for one of his daughters.

Same for Rumsfeld and Ashcroft.

I admit that Cheney is a scumbag, but after the actions at the Coward's ranch, Bush is actually a bigger scumbag than Cheney, and that has come as a surprise to me.

Cheny and wife have assets around $70 Million. What is the possible motivation for him to be VP again?

19. Nah...
No Republican would openly court gays. It'd alienate hard core evangelicals. Cheney isn't purely evil-- he's just moreso than any elected official I'd care to put in the White House.

I don't think he does anything that isn't 100% political. Bringing
up this whole gay thing right now is just a little ploy on their part. George is "agin" 'em & Cheney is "fur"'em. Probably has something to do with the convention coming up and trying to throw a bone to gay activists so they won't hate them quite so much.

all either of them cares about is their money-related agenda.

10. Come on, snap out of it!
Here, have some black coffee and smelling salts!

Cheney's statements may have been delivered at the urging of his wife and daughter, as some have suggested, but I think it's more likely an attempt to make this administration seem like it has a heart. At least one that's not desiccated, shriveled, and warped.

They must need those 600 Log Cabin Republican votes bad.

13. No, I think
it hurts their base.

The whole reason behind this issue was to contrast Bush and Kerry on Gay Rights.

Now, all Kerry has to say is "Cheney, John Edwards, and myself all agree on this issue"

It puts numb-nuts out there by himself.

If Cheney is throwing anyone a bone, it's his wife and daughters.

15. It's a Ploy to Keep It Off of the Official GOP Platform
because most repukes know a Constitutional Amendment will hurt the party because it's pandering to complete bigots.

It may end up on the platform anyway.

Plus, correct me if I'm wrong, didn't Chumley say he was for states deciding, not that he was pro-gay marriage?

He's still a bigot, what's admirable about that?

Hey! I don't care whether he moves away to Timbuktu or closer to * he is still the same heartless human to me. You sound sympathetic to wards him, Why? He is the most dangerous human being around in my opinion, soo....I don't buy into your personal sure-up for him, why would you come here and make a statement like that, when he is considered an enemy in my eyes, by the way...I must let you know I'm not a moderate democrat, I'm a completely Liberal democrats, love life , love having fun, love socializing, so I tend to take offense on people that are trying to make the re pugs look good any chance they get.

These people don't give a damn about how the Dem feels but the Dem's always show concern to wards these maniacs.Thats why they think they are God. Just so you know we are at war with the Re pugs, they are not holding anything back, why should we, if you've not seen the news lately, just a reminder, SWIFT BOAT VETERAN FOR TRUTH ring a bell, I guess it should, let me remind you, smearing someone that fought for their country, answer me this, do you think is a good idea.

Think About That!

18. Come on, calm down
I'm the most passionate liberal, labor Democrat you could ever meet.

If Cheney can make Bush look less competent, let's use him. It's a wedge, get it. As bad as Cheney is, Bush is worse. After all, Bush is at the top of the ticket, he's the one to beat.

Divide and conquer. Damn with faint praise. Get it?

Come on, any time you can draw fire in which your enemy shoots at each other, you encourage it. Get it? Fight fire with fire.

When Zell Miller takes the stage to criticize Kerry, will Cheney do the same to Bush? Get it? Have fun with it. Make the other side squirm. Damn with faint praise. Out Rove Karl Rove.

Get it??????????

I'm honored that you replied to my thread.

I've been trying to follow your insightful Plame threads, but it is some heavy reading.

My point about this Cheney thing is that it can be politically useful to Kerry. This can be a wedge issue between the Repukes.

Kind of like damning with faint praise. Kerry can say that he, Edwards and Cheney all agree on this issue, leaving Dumbo looking like an outsider.

That's my point.

30. One of the best songs ever
was the Lennon-McCartney "Getting Better" from Sgt Pepper's. It was one of the times Paul went to work on serious lyrics. "It's getting better all the time...." Then John chimes in, "It can't get much worse." I like your thread, and it is serious. I just can't help chiming in!

That motherfucker is right in line with neocons on every issue. He steps out of line with their fundamentalist constituency on this one social issue, but only because this one touches him personally. That's called moral cowardice.

This is just the same as when Cheney supported the Vietnam War, but refused to serve himself. Dick Cheney is the embodient of humanity's lowest qualities: greed, hatred, cruelty, dishonesty, cowardice, you name it.
