Jerry Patterson..here's why he was
the one Bush had to meet Max Clelland. From his bio.
(snip)

Born in Houston, Texas on November 15, 1946 Jerry Patterson has devoted his life to public service. He served his country as a U.S. Marine for over twenty years and served as state Senator for six. Recently, he has also served as state relations director for the American Red Cross.

As State Senator from District 11, Patterson’s major legislative successes included passage of the historic concealed handgun law, a constitutional amendment allowing home equity lending, the state coastal management plan and the creation of the Texas State Veterans Home Program. He earned a reputation as a no-nonsense but determined voice for individual freedom and constitutionality. He also worked diligently to honor his fellow veterans.

Patterson graduated Texas A&M, Class of 1969 and received his commission in the United States Marine Corps. In 1972 he volunteered for duty in Vietnam and served there until the “cease-fire”. He was later designated as a Naval Flight Officer at Pensacola, Florida and served in Marine fighter squadrons until his retirement from the Marine Corps Reserve as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1993.

Jerry and his wife Jennifer reside in Austin. His daughter Emily currently attends South Texas College of Law and lives in Houston. His son Travis is a graduate of Texas A&M, where he was commissioned a Lieutenant in the U.S. Marines. He now serves on active duty as a U.S. Marine attack helicopter pilot.

4. He wasn't a hatchet man so he wasn't effective for BushCorp.
I felt a little sorry for him. He was out of his league.

He gave everyone some very important information - that the BC campaign actually wrote the letter and he and the other * vets were just asked to sign on to it.

That letter is the first time Shrub directly attacks Kerry on Vietnam. They can't claim any distance from it anymore.

being paid by the county while doing the Bush campaign's dirty work?

I don't know about Texas, but where I come from (Mass.) that's illegal.

Someone should check this out.

6. It may be illegal in Massachusetts
but that doesn't stop Governor Mitt from doing it. I mean, the man calls press conferences to bash Kerry, and holds them at the State House, during regular business hours, and gets away with it.

Even in Massachusetts, it seems, it is only illegal if it is done by a Democrat.

22. Hmmm, interesting. A developer funding the Land Commissioner.

What a coincidence, a land developer funding the land commissioner's campaign. Gee, I wonder how many of said developer's, or his competition's development projects have required a ruling by said land commissioner, or how much inside info may be discussed over cocktails.

How conveeeenient!

O, for the intrepid investigative reporter, here is a juicy tidbit!

25. Real estate is real estate
Edited on Wed Aug-25-04 06:54 PM by steviet_2003

I know this is not the point of the original post, I looked up the texas land commissioner office and what it oversees. Basically they oversee all land owned by the state, including leasing of oil, gas, mineral, timber and grazing rights. They also SELL state land.

Land Sales

The Asset Management Division sells and leases many different types of properties periodically throughout the year. Please follow the link that describes your interest.
COMMERCIAL NON-COMMERCIAL
- Office - Ranch Land
- Retail - Agricultural
- Industrial - Recreational
- Other - Tax Foreclosures / Family Lots

Summer 2004 Real Estate Sales

Would you like to be added to our mailing list ?

and http://www.glo.state.tx.us/land/realestate.html

Seems like they make most of their cash by determining the oil and gas leases, but ANY state land commission is in the business of buying and selling, mostly to developers.

BTW: personal attacks are against the rules.

Also, welcome to DU, assuming you're not a lurker.

Tight as thieves, I say!
