Cheney and Gay Marriage
I believe Cheney's resent comment that he actually supports gay marriage is an attempt by the Bush/Cheney Campaign to keep gay Republicans from voting for Kerry. When the issue first came up Cheney said he agreed with Bush. Now he says he agrees with gay marriage. I think there could only be three reasons for Cheney's switch in his opinion. The one that I have already mentioned, to keep the gay republicans from voting for Kerry. Second, his daughter put pressure on him to speak in favor of gay marriage. Third, this is the way they will get Cheney off of the ticket. Now Bush can kick Cheney off the ticket and say that Cheney was removed due to a difference of opinions. Bush would then be free to pick a new vice president. I understand it might be hard to find a popular republican that is against gay marriage, but Bush just might try it. It would not surprise me if Cheney left the ticket soon. I just do not believe Cheney changed his mind because he began to feel his position was wrong.

3. He never said he supported gay marriage.
The issue is whether or not a federal ammendment is justified. And it really isnt that big a disagreement, it is far more likely this was done to appeal to majority of americans that dont want the consitution ammended.

4. Actually, this is a reversion by Cheney
Cheney used to hold this position... he briefly got behind the President regarding the FMA, and now has switched back. Of course, before the FMA became an issue, his support of state's rights on this issue was much less noticed by the general public.

Maybe his heart caught up with him... maybe he thought this would stop the "Dear Mary" campaign... maybe it's a cynical political ploy. I don't see any good way of answering the question, and I don't think that it matters much. The Vice President's opinions on domestic policy and a dollar will buy you a cup of coffee.

5. I doubt Cheney goining anywhere.
Shrub knows Cheney is the brains of the ticket, and I doubt he'll boot him off. I do however think this could hurt shrub bad with his RW base. I heard several arguments from the likes of Bower saying Cheney's comments were "troubling". The Log Cabin Pubs are also very pi**ed that the "Marriage Ammendment" is part of the Pub platform.

Oooo good! I can't wait to see a good fight at the convention!!!!
