The government is STEALING from the middle class-Fair Labor Standards Act
Edited on Wed Aug-25-04 09:28 PM by Enrico
Why isn't there a huge uproar over the errasure of up to 6 million American's overtime pay? It seems to me like so much has happened during Bush's watch that maybe our citizens are just too stunned to protest the way we should. The Fair Labor Standards Act should not stand!

1. I'm as perplexed as you are...
...I mean, do americans really want to throw away all the hard work that was done to win workers basic rights?

Are americans so drop dead brain tuned to the propaganda of the paternal rule of corporations that they will let this pass without so much as a sigh? How many people understand this to be a revolution conducted at the hands of business designed to indenture workers to endless hours without compensation? I don't know, man.

Workers of the world, you've just been fucked again.

Until we realize that we can exert absolute control over the economy simply by organizing and acting in unison, I suppose we should expect more and larger shafts to be inserted into our collective asses.

5. You're right... widening the gap between lower and upper class
It seems like the middle class is slowly being chipped away at, until, before you know it, we will be Upper or lower class... sounds like communist Russia to me...

6. this is all part and parcel of the Bush extreme rightwing . . .
agenda = to push the legal clock back to before Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

Give this idiot 4 more years and he will succeed -- the U.S. Supreme Court will have at least 2 (if not more) extreme ideologues in rightwing rhetoric on the bench . . . this will cast America back to the early 1900s with a snap of the fingers!

He will pack the U.S. Supreme Court in similar ways that he has packed the executive administrative agencies such as the U.S. Labor Department (btw are you aware that Antonin Scalia's kid heads up the lawyers in THAT federal department?).

You say fair wages is at issue?!!! ONLY wages?

2. Well? Just like 99.9% of all things that Dumbya has done . . .
this was done w/o public input, period.

Hey, if you want to clip the wings of a bird, then only do it w/ a hood on its head, correct? Either that or try pushing it through congress at the heat of the moment, thereby not allowing Congressional-types any time to read, analyze or get constituency feed-back, e.g., The U.S.A. Patriot Act of 2001.

That's the GWBush legacy = deceit, subterfuge and hypocrisy.

3. There is
An uproar. Unfortunately, if a tree falls in the woods and the news media decides not to cover it......

The AFL-CIO as well as many others mounted petetion drives, mail and email campaigns and other proactive measures only to be completely ignored. I think the WH simply shut off email access from the groups involved, they didn't want to hear it.

The fact is, the average worker in this country simply has no value anymore. Its a free-fall "free-market" race to the bottom. I hope the rich assholes that benefit from this strangle to death on their own vomit. That's the best wish I have for them!

7. Like I said..Ratpublicans are destroying this country
The middle class has carried the weight of the tax burden since the begining of Taxation.

Now you take away the middle class and what do you have left...No one to pay the taxes.

so what is next..They will start cutting services and taxing the poor

right up to we become a 3rd world nation

8. I've been watching....and freaking out about all the crap
that has gone to hell under bushco. I call my reps about this stuff..then come in here to see what others are doing or saying.

Hopefully...............................Kerry will recind these measures/bills when elected.

Don't forget to work on your state elections also. Blast your reps right now about every single thing. It's THEIR JOB to listen to your complaints!! Bother them, bother them, bother them.....

9. Partly because the admin is lying about it.
They claim it to be a much smaller number of folks losing overtime pay (and I think they say others will now be eligible for it). They've told so many lies about it, I can't even remember them all. And of course the issue is not getting much coveraga. This has been coming on for quite some time and they seem to be only (barely) mentioning it now, when it's a done deal.
