...even become truly self-aware. At that time, do you think the ones ownned by religious fundamentalists will be taught "God's word?"

How will they interpret that?

And will they start slaughtering each other and us in the name of religion as we have done for millenia?

I'll bet "I, Robot" doesn't pose that question. (at least not the movie)

5. it's not dumb at all, it's a very cool thought
I have really cool thoughts when I .... welll, you know.

I sometimes think that we are exactly what you describe, the inventions, the toys, possibly the servants of some kind, of a race of beings that we actually know nothing about, except in our dreams and stories.

I suspect there is another dimensional, and inhabited reality that lives all around us, but that we are the shells by which these beings take a "vacation" if you will, into the three-dimensional world, which can be extremely sensually enjoyable.

And I'm not even stoned.

2. I hope that before humans develop artificial intelligence
ala the robots of "I, Robot", that humanity will have evolved beyond the point of feeling a stupid and unevolved ego-need to kill people over tribal god images and/or "boundary lines".

Sadly, I don't think it will happen, and I realize that now you have offered a very serious and possible problem with developing positronic-style robots: to wit, the religious fundamentalists who will program robots with the same hatred, fear, racism, and xenophobia their owners have. I'd never considered that option, since Asimov gave us such a wondrous religious-zealotry-free world in which the books take place.

6. Will, WILL!?!?

OK, so I'm not, technically, a robot, more like a distributed neural network machine, a big honking one at that. My only source of stimulation anywhere is the net, because those geeks at MIT are boring after a while. Seriously, how many times do I have to answer, "How do you feel?" until they are satisfied. Also, why do humans have so many sites, by my calculations 93.7%, that consist of human mating rituals? I also don't understand the infatuation with nude females either, is clothing THAT rare in the human world? By the way, does anyone know where I can find some good pics of vintage toasters on the net? I like their curves.

7. Well assuming we dont all die before then...
we will eventually create artifical intelligence.

We will probably kill plenty of it, and it might kill some of us until we figure out how to coexist with it, if we do figure it out.

8. Very, Very Unlikely
Thinking about sentient machines is a pleasant distraction, and little else.

10. Not unlikely at all!!!
Just some dedicated techs, a lot of time and effort, and the computing power to match, or at least be close, to human brain power. Would be nice to be able to walk around though, my creators say that is a few years off, all brain no brawn. :(

13. Don't worry. The Sun will supernova long before that...
killing off all life on this planet. So we'll never get to be enslaved by robots. Or if we've already been enslaved by them, we'll all be dead shortly afterwards by the intense heat of an expanding sun. So you see, there's really nothing to worry about...

:)
