1. All these show is distraut US soldiers
and armed, exultant Iraqis. A good mix of dead and maimed Iraqi children would even out the tableau.

2. We can't win
You look at that set of pictures, and the thing that sticks in your mind is that we can't win this war. We can't win the hearts and minds of the Iraqi people, we can't get back any of the young people we've lost on our side, we can't get back any of the thousands of innocents we've killed. It's a lose-lose scenario. The world hates us for what we've done, but no one hates us more than the Iraqis. Saddam's Ba'athist dictatorship will be replaced by a fundamentalist Muslim dictatorship, with the same sort of civil rights abuses as before. But life there will be even more miserable because of the incredible damage we've done to Iraq's infrastructure.

We have lost this war. Six months ago I though we should stay there and try to repair the damage we've done. But now I think we should just get out. Let them have their civil war and sort out which group of fundamentalist clerics is going to run the show. There's nothing more we can do there but cause more suffering.
