Chief Judge Wm. Young opened his mouth: "judges are teachers"

he was on c-span's Wash. Journal this a.m. and he repeated this a number of times. that it was a judge's job, duty, to teach with their findings and verdicts, etc. it's how us citizens learn, etc.

judicial process? It isn't taught in public schools; it isn't exposeed in the media; and it isn't discussed at dinner tables. And because judges are expected to experts in the law on which they decide their cases, why shouldn't they make it accessible to citizens by explaining their logic and reasoning? The jurisprudence of a judge is not a mystical experience. It is a necessary process to be held accountable. The judicial system depends upon reliability and trust of the public in order for it to effectively work.

5. This makes sense to me.
Part of judgement is to make the jugdgement make sense. Other wise you run the risk of capricious or confusing decisions. Teaching might not be the best metephor for that process, but idon't think it's the worst either.

6. I think it is good for the judge to explain why he came to a decision
or a jugdement. As far as stating they are "teachers" that is a bit condenscending.
